Thank you to Ceva Animal Health and their rep, Karen, for proving our office with a lunch and learn today. We have many products from Ceva and there are more coming that we feel will be a help for medical issues such as skin, anxiety, and pancreatitis.

We were proud to support Uniontown Boys Basketball by sponsoring a team in their annual golf outing at Duck Hollow. It was a beautiful day on the course and Team GVS shot a bogey free 67 (-5) to finish 18th out of 28 teams. GVS employees Bob and Ben were joined by their friends Brian and Dan.

Today we celebrate Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day! The toughest part of having a pet is the day you have to tell them goodbye. On that day it is said our beloved companions cross the rainbow bridge. Today is set aside for everyone to remember those wonderful animal family members. Whether a pocket pet, reptile, bird, farm animal, dog, cat, or any other type of pet, feel free to share stories and pictures in the comments below. For those who recently lost a pet and are still struggling be aware there are groups that can help. There are several ways to honor your pet including making a donation in their name to a shelter, planting a tree in their honor, making a Christmas ornament, a scrapbook, or just telling the world what they meant to you.

Today we celebrate National Dog Day! Commonly known as Man’s Best Friend, dogs have been by our side for centuries. For many a dog can become more than a friend. They are there in our best times and in our worst. From childhood to adulthood humans have always had a desire to have a canine companion. This day is to celebrate the dogs in your home while also getting people out to adopt from shelters or volunteer at a local shelter to give a dog in need some much needed love and attention. Feel free to share photos of the dogs that make your family!

Today is National Black Cat Appreciation Day! For centuries people have been superstitious about black cats as there was a feeling they bring bad luck. Cat owners know this is not even close to being true as black cats are loyal and loving pets. Sadly, black cats are 1/2 as likely to be adopted from shelters as the centuries old stigma about them being bad luck or evil remains today. That is part of the reason this day was created. It was to make people aware of these cats being passed over when it comes time to adopting. Please feel free to share photos of your beloved black cat and if you are looking to rescue a cat from a shelter be sure to look for a black cat that was likely passed on by others.

Today is Check The Chip Day! This day is to raise awareness regarding the importance of Microchipping! We have had several lost pets that were brought into our office this year that were scanned and had a microchip. In each case we were able to contact the owner and reunite them with their pet. All veterinary offices and even animal shelters will have a scanner that can detect any brand of Microchip. In Fayette County a Microchip can also be registered for a lifetime license with The Court House. This one time fee means your pet doesn't have to be licensed every year. Implanting a microchip is a safe and easy process that is little more than your pet getting a vaccine (with a larger needle). We often recommend having done when your pet is here for spay or neuter, but can be done anytime. If you have any questions about Microchip please contact our office.

This time of year we are seeing more dogs having diarrhea. Parasites are always a concern and it is best to have a sample tested. All our f***l samples are sent to an outside Lab for testing. If your pet is on a monthly heatrworm prevention, there is a good chance it deworms for the most common parasites as well. The test will let us know if there are any uncommon parasites that may be the cause of the diarrhea.
