MEET CHIPS!

After 270 days of waiting, Chips is finally RELEASED and ready to find his forever home!

Chips is about 1 year old and weighs around 50 lbs. He came to us as part of a neglect case, and after everything he has been through, we are so happy that his next chapter can finally begin.

He has been with us since December 5, 2025 — 270 days. That is a LONG time for any dog to wait for a family.

Other dogs: We recommend a meet & greet to make sure everyone is a good match.
Cats: We can cat test Chips if you have an approved application.
Age: About 1 year old
Weight: About 50 lbs

Now we need to find the family that Chips has been waiting for. 270 days is long enough. Let's get this boy HOME!

📢 NEW SHELTER HOURS — PLEASE SHARE! 🐾

Starting this Thursday, the Leitchfield Animal Shelter will be closed to the public every Thursday.

We know a change in hours can take some getting used to, but we’re making this adjustment during our slower months so our staff can use that extra day to catch up on the important behind the scenes work that can be difficult to keep up with while we’re open to the public.

By closing on Thursdays, we can focus on:
🧹 Deep cleaning & sanitizing
🐾 Caring for and getting to know our animals
🚐 Vet appointments & transports
📋 Paperwork & record keeping
💻 Updating our adoptable animal sites

Having a dedicated day for these tasks helps us keep the shelter running smoothly and allows us to spend our open hours focusing on visitors, adoptions, fosters, and helping our community.

Monday: 10 AM – 4 PM
Tuesday: 10 AM – 4 PM
Wednesday: 10 AM – 4 PM
Thursday: 🚫 CLOSED
Friday: 10 AM – 4 PM

City of Leitchfield offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day.

City reminders:
- City Hall & city offices: Closed Monday, Sept. 7. Normal business hours will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
- Emergency Services: As always, police, fire, and emergency personnel will remain fully operational.

We wish everyone a safe, restful, and happy Labor Day weekend.

Unaltered male found at Dollar General in Wax. Can be reclaimed with proof of ownership within the 5 day stray hold. He has a collar and tags but the number on the tag does not get us ahold of the owner.

We’re excited to share that the Leitchfield Animal Shelter retail area is growing! Our retail room is still a work in progress, but we’re adding more items to make bringing home a new furry family member a little easier! ❤️

We decided to expand our retail selection so that when you adopt, you don’t necessarily have to make an immediate stop at the store for the basics your new pet needs. You can grab some of those essentials right here at the shelter!

The best part? Every purchase made from our retail area helps support the homeless animals in our care. Your purchase helps us continue providing food, medical care, enrichment, and the necessities these animals need while they wait for their forever homes.

THE “GET AGGIE HOME” CHALLENGE

SHE FREE!!!!!

Aggie has been at the shelter for 118 DAYS… and she’s still here.

She’s only about 1½ years old, and we are becoming worried that spending so much time in a kennel is starting to affect her mentally. She deserves a home, a family, a yard to run in, and a chance to just be a dog.

So this week, we’re challenging YOU.

Our goal: GET AGGIE OUT OF THE SHELTER BY NEXT WEEK!

Aggie has done well with other dogs in the past, but we always recommend a meet and greet. We’re unsure about cats, but we can cat-test her for anyone interested.

Who’s going to be the person that finally gives Aggie her chance?
