Brunch with Sam. Tex-Mex scramble and avocado toast on homemade garlic herb bread for the win !!!! And no, Sam's toast didn't get avocado. According to his vet, the level of persin in even the smallest amount of avocado could potentially make susceptible birds very sick, and that's not a risk we're willing to take. Sam wanted to pop on and say Happy new year y'all ! He also wanted to let you know that were going to start offering resident approved recipes every week to help with expenses. This week's recipe is an awesome Korean inspired savory kimchi pancake. For just a three dollar donation you can enjoy one of my favorite snacks whenever you want. Two dollars more and I'll also send you the recipe for my peanut dipping sauce ! It's great with the pancakes and soooooooo much more, I've literally always got a jar of it in the fridge. Both recipes are simple to make, with ingredients that are available at almost any grocery store. Also available but not pictured, for our friends with a sweet tooth, my grandma's raw apple cake.

Happy almost new year from our family to yours !!!!! I try not to ask, but we're in a crunch and could really use your help. I need to pick up feed for everyone tomorrow, and hay for Joker and the goats, and I'm short almost $200.00. Paypal and Facebook pay are easiest for me, or Venmo. Or if you would prefer to purchase feed and hay directly i can give you the information to buy it at our local TSC and i can pick up. I need y'alls thoughts..... would any of our followers be interested in buying some of my personal vegan recipes to help support our residents ? I don't ask for donations often, but in reality I know that we NEED to raise funds to keep the rescue going, so I'm exploring alternate ways to bring in income. Feed costs are going up, so are hay and straw. Thankfully my vets haven't raised their prices yet but I'm sure that's coming too and I'd really like to have our vet fund built back up before we open back up to intakes. Pictured are just a few of the recipes that I've created and make regularly.

Well, winter is officially here. Luckily we had amazing weather Friday and Saturday and were able to get structures and houses winterized and packed with straw before the cold hit, so all of the outdoor kids had warm cozy houses to snuggle in away from the cold and the wind. Unfortunately we used all of our straw, and will need to buy more soon. And colder weather means that Joker and the goats are going through a lot more hay than they do in the warmer months, so the big stacks of bales that I bought last month are almost gone. Plus colder temperatures mean higher feed bills because I increase how much everyone eats when it's cold. I know money is tight for everyone and I hate asking, but donations would be so very appreciated right now. Also, almost all of the kids pictured here are available for adoption and would love a forever family for Christmas if you have room in your home and your heart for a new best friend or two.

And once again, Otis takes the gold medal in the Hide and Seek games. It's cold here today, so this is probably the most I'll see of him until lunch time. Otis is just one of our adoptable pigs, and is the best boy EVER ! His hobbies include snuggling on the couch with his person, watching movies and eating popcorn, and having his belly rubbed. And he is literally the least destructive house pig I've ever met. His only "bad" habit is stealing every blanket and pillow he can reach to build his hiding spots with.

Just spent almost fifteen minutes looking for Otis. Did you know that we have several adult pigs available for adoption ? Older pigs are often overlooked, but they're truly the perfect companions. You don't have to wonder how big they're going to get, or what their personalities are going to be like when they grow up. They've already learned manners, and for the most part they're past the dreaded teenage years where they like to be destructive and eat walls or rearrange the living room furniture. Piglets are cute, but they're a LOT of work. If you want a buddy who wants nothing more than to share your blankets and popcorn and snuggle on the couch while watching a movie, then an older pigs is exactly what you need.

The old sectional was beyond saving, and today I decided that I was going to go all She-Ra and pull it to the curb all by myself. And as y'all can imagine, it did NOT go as planned. I managed to get both halves to the porch, right as it started pouring. I'm a little frustrated, but the front yard kids are having a ball with it. I don't know what made me laugh more, Jeffrey's silly grin or Roy trying to hide in the corner. Sigh, they're going to be so mad at me when it dries out enough to drag the nasty thing out of the yard, but at least for tonight it's all theirs.

And while I'm trying to stay positive, baby Alice has decided that the big kids hard food is her thing. Watching her struggle to actually chomp it almost hurts, but seeing her succeed at it makes my heart happy. Baby girl is so much more fierce than I would have imagined, and she is thriving. She actually walked past her soft food this morning to eat with the big kids.

I know i keep promising to do better about posting, and then apologizing about life being in the way. Well here we go. It's been a sh*tty day, and a sh*tty week. While Alice is thriving and Duncan and Gidget are up to their necks in shenanigans we lost two of our other dearest porcine friends in four days. And it was hard for me to even post Alice being her most silly kitten self the last few days when I'm having a hard time balancing my love for humanity with my hatred for the people who irresponsibly bred my friends parents for food or quick money.... so there we go. I am tired, and I am sad, and I strive to find something that makes me as happy as Duncan is with an empty feed bag to crinkle. And yes, it looks like he's going to suffocate from being stuffed so far into the bag. He was fine, I know how he gets, and I poked breathe holes in the bag before I put it down for him. Pig mom life is a weird balance of safety measures and FAFO mentality.

And on a not-Alice note...... i give you Boober !!!!! I may be biased, but I swear this boy is one of the prettiest pigs...
