Save the Tails, Inc Save the Tails Inc. is a 501c(3) nonprofit, foster-based dog rescue group in Loudoun County, Northern VA. We pull dogs from kill shelters and find them homes.

In our 10 years of existence we have saved over 900 healthy, beautiful dogs from certain euthanasia and made as many local families very happy. Please help us save them. Right now shelters are full of hopeful dogs in hopeless

situations. With YOUR help, WE CAN save them! There is something everybody can do in the community. FOSTER a dog. Provide a temporary sanctuary in your home until a shelter dog can be adopted. This is imperative! Fostering gets dogs out of kill shelters. Fostered dogs are more likely to be adopted. Ours are good dogs; treasures in the ruff just waiting for a kind human to add the sparkle. Fostering is for us FREE and a guaranteed way to save a life. EMAIL [email protected]

ADOPT a dog. Our dogs come to you healthy, up to date on vaccines and preventatives, dewormed and microchipped. Most are already housebroken and ready to go. When you adopt you save 2 lives; the dog you adopt and the one that gets his space at rescue. Our adoption fees are a fraction of what you would pay to buy a dog plus all of the fees go back into the rescue to help save more dogs. EMAIL [email protected]. DONATE. Every once in a while a dog will come to us heartworm positive, or with an embedded collar; with unforeseen medical costs or in need of a little extra training. These things are costly but a standard part of any rescue. Donations save lives. We are a 501c(3) nonprofit, your donations are eligible for employer matching programs! VISIT savethetails.org to make a tax-deductible donation. VOLUNTEER. Do you have a few hours on a Saturday or Sunday to spend in air conditioned/heated comfort with an adorable dog? Our volunteers are our dogs' advocates; they tell potential adopters about the dog they are handling, plus they get to give belly rubs and treats to our dogs and puppies. We also need transporters to help move our dogs from shelters to foster homes, organize fundraisers and more. EMAIL [email protected]

We started this week with 25 urgent dogs. In just two days, only five found placement.

That means 20 dogs are still waiting. 20 dogs who reached their original deadline without anyone stepping forward for them.

Their deadlines have now been extended in the hope that more of them can find a way out. They have until 7PM on Friday, September 4 to find placement through foster, adoption, or a rescue pull.

And this list is full of wonderful dogs who want nothing more than the chance to decompress outside of a shelter and have people to love.

There’s Giselle, who weighs under 25 pounds. There’s Achilles, who weighs over 120. And there’s just about every size, age, personality, and type in between.

If you tuned into the live, you got to watch Potsticker, She Coca, Donald, Kovalan, Germany, March Ice, Silva, Kass, Melany, Zoomer, Shoe String, and Galleon enjoying playgroup. Several other dogs on this list are dog-friendly too, even if playgroup just isn’t their thing.

Ending Thursday night with 20 dogs still waiting is disheartening. But we are not giving up on them.

You can’t save all 20 by yourself.

But can you save one?

Can you give one dog the chance to decompress, feel safe, and finally thrive outside of the shelter? Can you be one small piece of a happy ending?
