🐾 September is National Preparedness Month! 🐾
When preparing for an emergency, don’t forget to include your pets in your plans! Hurricanes, severe weather, power outages and other unexpected events can happen quickly, and a little preparation ahead of time can make a big difference. ❤️
Here are a few things every pet owner should have ready:
🐶🐱 Prepare a pet emergency kit with several days of food, water, medications, bowls, litter and other necessary supplies.
💊 Keep medications and medical information handy, including vaccination records and your veterinarian’s contact information.
🏷️ Make sure identification is current. Check that ID tags are readable and that your pet’s microchip information has your current phone number and address.
📸 Keep recent photos of your pets in case you become separated.
🧳 Have carriers, crates and leashes accessible. An emergency is not the time to discover the cat carrier is buried in the back of a closet!
🏠 Know where you can go with your pets. If evacuation becomes necessary, identify pet-friendly lodging, shelters or trusted friends and family ahead of time.
🐾 Plan for every animal in your household. Cats, dogs, horses and other pets may have very different needs during an emergency.
Most importantly, never leave your pets behind if you have to evacuate. If conditions aren’t safe for you, they aren’t safe for them either.
Florida weather can keep all of us on our toes, especially during hurricane season. Taking a little time now to prepare can help keep the entire family—two-legged and four-legged—safer when the unexpected happens. ❤️🐾
