Vet visit today for Xipilli. Vet believes it’s a secondary bacterial infection from a flea bite allergy (not that she has fleas). Two weeks of antibiotics and twice a week baths with a chlorihexidine shampoo. Vet expects her to start feeling better in a few days 🤞🤞🤞🩷

Getting my evening steps in with this old man. Poor Admiral (11 years old), one trip around the park ring and he was gassed out. He was sure happy to go on the walk. Probably the calmest walk I’ve ever taken with him. He’s still doing well, but it’s hard seeing the age in his body. I know our time with him is limited.

Sometimes dog placements don’t work. THIS is why Dogos should go back to their breeders when a placement fails. This girl’s family relocated to a different state and they couldn’t take her with them. She was placed with the previous owners elder parents and they couldn’t handle the needs of a dogo (fair). At 3 years old this girl came back to us. She was slow to warm to us when Mike and I picked her up yesterday. She was a good girl and silently guarded her elderly owners, pacing in front of them and placing her body between us and them. A few little low growls, but never anything aggressive - just protective.

After earning her trust, we brought her back home with us. As soon as she saw our backyard - her first home- she instantly perked and pulled on her leash to go to the kennel she was first raised in - tail excitedly wagging. After that moment she knew she was home and safe. All of her guard went down and she relaxed. 🥹🥰

Welcome back home Xipilli. We have a long way to go to get your skin healthy (it’s a wreck 🥺😭🤦🏼‍♀️), but I’m glad you feel comfortable and at home.

Mike and I were responsible for bringing her into this world. We are responsible for making sure she has a safe home for life. There is a chance she will permanently stay with us, but we might find her a new home. Time will tell on that one.
