Ledyard CHAIN Inc We are an all volunteer 501(c)3 whose main job is to fundraise to make life better for pets in need at the Ledyard Animal Control and within our community.

Want to help? Have new ideas? Get in touch! Welcome to our page for the Ledyard Citizen’s Helping Animals In Need or C.H.A.I.N. We were established in late 2013 and became a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity in 2014. Our main focus is to fulfill the needs of our local shelter, the Ledyard Animal Control, by supplying anything the pets might need in the way of food, treats, beds, toys, and medical care. We have 4 funds that directly impact the Ledyard Animal Control, our Fixed 4 Life fund which covers the cost of spays and neuters for the shelter pets; our Emergency Medical Fund which pays for medical treatment for the shelter pets when it goes above and beyond what the shelter can afford; The Oliver Project which pays for the spays, neuters, and vaccinations as part of their TNR program; and our Pet Food Assistance Program that keeps them stocked with pet foods and treats. We also have some community outreach programs. Our biggest is our Pet Food Assistance Program in which we supply food to our local food banks; other rescues and shelters that may reach out; and our community's pet owners who express a need. We also use our Fixed 4 Life Program to assist local pet owners by paying towards the cost of a spay or neuter for their pet to make the procedure a little easier to afford. In addition, we also have our C.H.A.I.N. Lost Pet Squad that assists residents search for their lost pets along with running the Ledyard Lost and Found Pets page on Facebook. It can be found at:

Throughout the year we have various fundraisers and collection drives to meet the needs of our projects and funds. Volunteers are always appreciated to help us in these endeavors. Our biggest giving time of the year is upon us. We will be making Holiday Pet Gift Bags for Ledyard and Gales Ferry pet owners, holding our Whiskers In Wonderland event for the pets at the Ledyard Animal Control, and then offering our Santa Run for the Pets for community kids and pets. In between all of that we still need to service the food pantries with pet food! Whew!!!

I wish I could say we have it all covered but I cannot. We will need you. We need donations, we need people to volunteer, we need people to like and share our posts, and most of all…we need you to attend our events!

This time of the year is special because it is helping pets who need a little extra. Some simply need food to eat or something special like a treat. We have our lost and unwanted at our shelter who need vet visits, spays and neuters, or extra medical care so they can find their forever home. And then we have our beautiful kids who ask for a gift for their pet at Christmas because they simply want to make their pet happy.

We are inviting you to join us for this giving season. We have the different ways to give below but if you have any questions don’t hesitate to reach out.

To Volunteer:

We may need help with pet food collection drives; pet food pickups/deliveries; raffle pickups/deliveries, putting up flyers in Ledyard and surrounding towns; setting out road signs mostly in Ledyard/Gales Ferry/Preston, etc. This will be a bit sporadic so let me know if you want to help and I can just reach out when there is a need.

December 6th- Whiskers in Wonderland
Lots of opportunity to help at this event. I can break down the jobs to help find the right fit. Some need a little more grunt work and some are easy. Teenagers are welcome! Kids under 13 years need to be accompanied by an adult.

Setup is between 9-12pm

To help during the event it is 12:30-4:30

Breakdown is between 3:30-5:30

We also need a PHOTOGRAPHER !!
Hours: 12:30-4pm
No need to be a professional just be able to take photos quickly because dogs do not want to sit in one place for long! You will need your own camera that uses SD cards. We will furnish the SD cards.

Ledyard CHAIN was thankful to be able to help the City of New London Animal Control this week. Sadly they have a very emaciated pup in their care and to help with the recovery, CHAIN made 110 Satin Balls and delivered them Tuesday. The pup totally approved of this high calorie treat and we hope it adds to his weight gain journey.

Just need someone to help man a table for one hour or more and accept pet food donations. Table will be outdoors. FILLED

We have free pup cups and bandanas for the pups and they can bob for a tennis ball! Still time to sign up for the pet costume parade at 2 pm! Oh and Captain Scott’s Food truck is here for lunch!

None of this happens without you. While we do get a lot of pet food donations, it’s never enough. As you can see, the amount we receive is always less than what we distribute. The difference is made up using dollars donated. When the dollars aren’t there we have to say no or give less. In addition there are medical needs of the pets at the shelter..spays and neuters that need to be done. So, never think that any donation is too small. Every $1 bill…every single can of food…helps…it makes a difference. We thank you and appreciate you.
