When I think of all the work that goes into these rabbits, the heart ache and frustration and want to give up. I look at pictures like this and remeber why.

Because these rabbit got Brooklynn through some of the worst obstacles and times of her life.
They helped her find her voice, find her strength and find herself.

Hard work and dedication is what this picture is all about. The sadness of saying goodbye, the Joy of winning BIG, the release of stress from the world all in one picture.

Yes it’s hard, yes it’s frustrating, but it’s also her life, her passion and her dreams. All in one picture.

God knew exactly what he was doing when he created Brooklynn and God knew she was going to need these rabbits.

Thank you Lord for all you do 💕

It’s Fair month and things are getting hectic and exciting.

Brooklynn is working on her photos for her exhibits and I came across one of my favorite pictures of 2025. I love this picture so much.

She’s so happy and proud of herself and of her rabbit.

May this year be as fun and enjoyable as the last.
Good luck to all the FFA and 4-H kids with all their projects this year.

This weekend Brooklynn and I traveled to Havana Nationals in Manchester Iowa. We had the best time visiting, laughing, showing rabbits and playing games. This year was the first year the Havana RBA held a royalty contest. Brooklynn asked if she could help pick everything for the winners and so she did.

The purple is very significant as back when purple was discovered and made into a usable material it was very rare and only Royalty was allowed to wear the color.
The tiara she picked for Duchess, Princess and Lady were originally suppose to have colored gems but they were back ordered so she picked a beautiful rose gold to stand out with stones that were so sparkly and worthy of presenting to the court.
She insisted the King had to have a crown as he was, well the King! so she set off to pick the perfect King crown and found a matching set for King and Queen.
The Queen crown was special, she picked the crown from the set she loved the most, even though she knew it might go on another’s head and she was happy with that, knowing how beautiful and special it was to her, made her even more proud to see someone else have it. Sapphires represent her first Best in show win from her first litter of Havanas back in 2019. Sapphire was that rabbits name and she was the daughter of the beloved matriarch Ruby Iris Powell and the bases of her rabbitry name Ruby’s Gems Rabbitry. Brooklynn brought Ruby’s granddaughter, (Sapphires only kit) that she named Sapphy, as well as Ruby’s great great granddaughter SapphiresHeart. This was so special for Brooklynn, to have both those rabbits attend Nationals.

How did her rabbits do?
She brought 11 and 8 placed in the top 10, SapphiresHeart being one of those. 2 placed in the top 5. As for Sapphy she didn’t do the best but she didn’t come off the table first and that was Brooklynn’s goal, she placed 15th out of 19 and made Brooklynn’s day.

How did Brooklynn do in the royalty contest?

Brooklynn was crowned Havana Queen 2026.

She was speechless and filled with tears of joy, pride and confidence. She wore her crown and apron all the way home to Kansas where she gave her sash to Sapphy and crowned her the Queen.

Thank you to everyone for your love and support of Brooklynn journey through the years. Watching her grow and explode into herself has been the main goal and she’s achieving it every single day.

Brooklynn hasn’t wanted me to share much this past year so I haven’t.

She asked me to share her pictures again and so I will be. Prom pictures will be coming soon and graduation will be this weekend.

Thank you Great Lakes Havana Club for hosting Nationals 2026!

Next year we are traveling to Mississippi for Havana Nationals 2027. where we will get to see our family in Purvis. So get ready Simmons crew 😂

Yesterday Brooklynn brought her sweetest Netherland Dwarf Muffin-Heart to the assisted living center to share some love for Valentine’s Day. Words can not describe the love this little rabbit brought these residents.

Muffin-Heart brought so much joy and happy tears to these people, it was very emotional and touching.

I wish we could share more photos but Brooklynn asked not to for discretion of some residents emotions. We also didn’t get a 4-H group photo this year. But we still helped make some great memories for Topeka.

Brooklynn had a truly blessed day today. She found out she graduates next Thursday, she just turned 17 and now bam time to pick a college.

We then went to her Riverside 4-H club meeting where she recived her GoldGuard award, 4 record book awards including 2 Grand champion winning books that get to move on to Regionals and if she wins there she gets to move onto state. She also got to help her club make Birthday boxes for harvesters. They got to decorate the boxes but they stay anonymous as they should. She drew rabbits on one, horses on another and cats on the last. I drew ducks and a duck pond and let the little girl next to me make the feet. They have toes and I couldn’t love it more LoL They had a taco bar with some of the greatest company and incredible food. She volunteered to do a project talk in January and my mom heart is just bursting with pride at her strength trying to over come her fear of public speaking through her love of rabbits. Thank you to everyone who has loved this child and help her grow into the beautiful and amazing young lady she is, and thank you PenPal rabbit feed for always keeping her warm in all those hoodies you send her.
