❤️🐾 An Update on Our Sweet Angel 🐾❤️
I’ve been making calls, sending medical records, asking questions, and doing everything I can to make sure Angel has the chance to live her very best life. This is only the beginning of Angel’s journey, and with our village standing behind her, one thing is certain: she will be loved, she will be cared for, and we will never stop fighting for her.
That’s the promise I made to her the day she came to us. ❤️
We finally have the results from Angel’s CT scan. While the news isn’t what we had hoped for, it does NOT mean that Angel can’t have a happy, fulfilling life surrounded by love.
The scan showed that Angel has experienced a severe loss of brain tissue and is missing a prominent structure in the back of her brain called the occipital cortex. Because of this, her veterinary team believes she may not be able to see and is likely navigating her little world through sound and smell. 💗
We also explored whether a shunt could help with her hydrocephalus. While the veterinary team cannot say with 100% certainty that it wouldn’t work, based on what they saw on the scan, they don’t believe it is likely to provide the benefit we had hoped for.
The encouraging news is that Angel’s condition appears to be relatively stable. Her doctors believe that the way she is now may be how she remains, although we will need to monitor her closely for potential complications, including seizures.
🐾 So, what happens next?
✨ Long-term medication: Angel has been taking omeprazole since her October 5 visit to UF. In veterinary neurology, this medication can help reduce the production of cerebrospinal fluid and may help manage pressure in her brain. It is likely to be part of her long-term care.
✨ A steroid trial: Angel has started a short course of steroids to see if they can help her. The medication will be gradually tapered according to her veterinarian’s instructions.
✨ Continued research and care: We will keep asking questions, exploring options, and working with her veterinary team to find ways to give Angel the best possible quality of life.
Angel may experience the world differently than other puppies, but different does not mean less deserving of a beautiful life. ❤️ Puppies are resilient, and with the right care, patience, and a whole lot of love, Angel can still experience comfort, happiness, security, and joy.
We know there may be challenges ahead, and we aren't going to pretend this journey will be easy. But Angel is here, she is loved, and she has a village behind her.
We will celebrate every milestone, cherish every little victory, and continue to do everything we can to give this precious girl the life she deserves.
Angel’s story is far from over. This is just the beginning. 🐾❤️
