π¦ **Are your crickets always dying?** π¦
Are you tired of constantly buying cricket food and those little cricket quenchers from the pet store? We were too! With all of our reptiles, we go through A LOT of crickets, and we were tired of buying them just to have so many die before they could be fed.
So, we changed the way we keep our cricketsβand I have to say, **it has made a HUGE difference!** π
Not only are our crickets staying alive much longer, but this setup is easier to clean and has helped us save money!
Hereβs what we do:
π¦ **Deep tote:** We keep our crickets in a deep plastic tote with plenty of ventilation.
π¦ **Egg cartons:** We cover the bottom with full egg cartons. This gives the crickets plenty of places to hide and climb while also creating a great surface to place their food on.
π₯ **Food plates:** We place small plates on top of the egg cartons and put their food directly on the plates. This makes it MUCH easier to see when food needs to be changed and makes cleanup a breeze!
𧻠**Paper towel & toilet paper rolls:** Don't throw those empty rolls away! We save them and put them in with the crickets. The crickets love climbing inside them, and it makes it super easy to grab a bunch when it's time to feed the reptiles.
π₯¬π **Food & hydration:** Instead of buying special cricket food and hydration products, we use things we already have around the house. We give them stems and leftover pieces from the greens we feed our bearded dragons, along with fruits and vegetables.
π **A great way to use food that would otherwise go to waste!**
Have an apple that's getting a little too soft? An orange that's starting to go bad? Fruits and vegetables that your family isn't going to eat? **Don't throw them away!** Cut them up and give them to your crickets.
The fruits and vegetables provide both **food and hydration**, so we're able to skip buying separate cricket hydration products. Plus, we're using scraps that might otherwise end up in the trashβwhich means **less waste and more savings!** π°
π We get our egg cartons from **Walmart**, and we buy our crickets in bulk directly from **Fluker's Farm**. Buying them in bulk has been much more affordable for us than constantly purchasing smaller quantities from the pet store.
This simple setup has worked **so much better for us**, and our cricket bin stays cleaner, our crickets last longer, and we're spending less money.
If you have reptiles and go through a ton of crickets like we do, **give this setup a try!** π¦β€οΈπ¦
