🐶🐱 “WHAT IS THAT?! WHY ARE YOU EATING THAT?!”
If you’re a pet parent, you’ve probably said this at least once. 😂
Socks. String. Hair ties. Toy pieces. Wrappers. Rocks. Bones. Basically… if it fits in their mouth, some pets apparently consider it a snack. 🤦♀️
But those forbidden snacks can turn into a serious problem.
When a pet swallows something they shouldn’t, it can become a foreign body. An object can get stuck in the stomach or intestines, causing a blockage. In more serious cases, it can cause the intestines to tear or perforate, leading to a life-threatening infection.
🚨 Keep an eye out for:
🐾 Vomiting or repeated retching
🐾 Drooling or gagging
🐾 Refusing food
🐾 Lethargy or weakness
🐾 Belly pain or bloating
🐾 Diarrhea or trouble passing stool
🐾 Just not acting like themselves
Think your pet swallowed something they shouldn’t have?
📞 Give your veterinarian a call right away. Even if they seem perfectly normal, it’s important to find out what they ate, how much they ate, and when they ate it.
❌ Please don’t try to make them vomit unless a veterinary professional specifically tells you to. Depending on what they swallowed, vomiting can actually make things worse.
If possible, save the packaging or bring in a sample of whatever they ate. That information can be incredibly helpful!
And remember… prevention is key! Keep tempting objects out of reach, supervise playtime, and regularly check toys for pieces that could become your pet’s next very bad idea. 😂
