Meet Sally, and her four babies — Stevie, Ozzy, Bowie, and Dolly. 🐱💛
When Sally showed up on a kind family's doorstep ready to give birth, they did something beautiful — they brought her inside. She had her babies safe and warm, surrounded by people who genuinely care. But as much as they love this little family, they can't keep them forever.
Before any rescue can take them, Sally and her kittens have to be cleared for placement:
✅ Sally needs vaccines, a rabies shot, FIV/FeLV testing, and deworming
✅ Stevie, Ozzy, Bowie, and Dolly each need vaccines and deworming
✅ We also have four more foster kittens here who need the same care
That's 9 animals, 9 sets of vet visits, and one tight budget.

Did you know that tiny claws get caught in regular bath towels and wash cloths?

If there are any human parents out there with cotton (not fleece) receiving blankets they no longer need, we would love to have some for kitten feeding and bath time. The kittens don't care about color or formula stains!

Cute pic of Topher as a baby just because.

Walnut rode through town in a car engine and somehow walked away without a scratch. 🐱 This morning our vet gave him a clean bill of health.

Today he's in the CLAWS nursery — our living room — on a bottle and completely unbothered.

Walnut is one of four in our care right now, along with Karen, Spot, and Tig (yes, pic in the comments for extra points)

Honest truth: CLAWS was built for TNR, not rescue. Our current funding is designated for that work. It doesn't cover bottle babies.

We weren't designed to be a rescue. But who can say no to those little faces?

We need your help right now to take care of these babies without it coming at the cost of the work that prevents the next litter. Every gift makes that possible. 🐾

🚨 URGENT – Peaches NEEDS a Barn Home NOW 🚨
We’re going to be blunt, because this matters:
Keeping Peaches confined like this is not a long-term option.

Peaches has the honor of being the first cat spayed through CLAWS (funded by our first grant from the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies!), and we did exactly what we’re supposed to do— we stopped the cycle.
But now we’re stuck in the next problem.

Peaches is not handling indoor confinement. At all.
💠She is extremely stressed
💠She is barely eating
💠She is currently in a large kennel for recovery
💠She panics when approached

This is not a house cat. And keeping her like this is only making things worse.
She needs out of this environment and into the RIGHT one—fast.
Peaches needs a barn, garage, shop, or outbuilding where she can:
💠Have space to decompress
💠Be provided food and water
💠Live as a working/barn cat
This is part of the plan—placing cats who can’t be socialized into safe, working environments instead of leaving them to struggle.

Right now, we need someone willing to step up.
If you have:
💠A barn or outbuilding
💠A safe property
💠And you’re open to giving a cat like Peaches a place
Contact us ASAP.

If you’ve confirmed the kittens need help, slow down—what you do next matters.

Newborn kittens are extremely fragile, and the most common mistake people make is trying to feed them right away.
👉 Do NOT feed them yet. Cold kittens cannot digest food, and feeding them can be fatal.

Your first job is to stabilize them:
• Keep them warm (this is critical)
• Keep them dry and together
• Limit handling

You can use:
• A heating pad on LOW (with a barrier)
• A warm towel
• A sock filled with dry rice and warmed in the microwave
• Body heat

Then get them help as soon as possible:
🐾 Contact a local vet
🐾 Reach out to a rescue

We know it’s hard to wait—but doing the right thing in those first hours gives them the best chance to survive.

Peaches needs a barn.
Peaches and her single kitten Dandelion came to us from a community colony — we think she's a young cat, probably a first-time mom, who trusted her colony caregiver enough to accept pets and treats and bring her baby to the porch for shelter.
That matters. She knows how to connect with people and her actions insured her baby will find a good home.
But she's semi-feral, it's not safe for her to return to the colony, and she deserves a life that fits who she is.
After Peaches is spayed, she will need a working home — a barn, a farm, a stable — somewhere she can be herself.
What she needs:
Outdoor or semi-outdoor space
Someone who'll provide shelter, food, water, and basic care
No expectation of a lap cat — just a good mouser and a cat living on her terms
If you have a barn or know someone who does, please reach out.
Peaches has already proven she can bond. She just needs the right place to land.

Kitten season is here—and that means you may start seeing kittens outdoors.

It can be alarming, but most kittens are not abandoned. Mother cats often leave to find food and will return to care for them.

Well-meaning people sometimes step in too quickly, which can actually separate kittens from their best chance of survival.

Sometimes you just need a good dose of kitten cuteness and Dandelion has us covered.

Hairballs happen… but not every day.
A little prevention goes a long way—brushing, hydration, and consistent feeding can help keep cats comfortable and healthy.
If something seems off, don’t ignore it.

Four kittens came in yesterday in critical condition.

They were cold. Dehydrated. Weak. By the time they reached us, their chances of survival were low.

And here’s the part people don’t like to hear:
This didn’t start yesterday. It didn’t start at intake.
It started with an unspayed cat.

Situations like this happen every day. Not because people don’t care—but because prevention didn’t happen in time.

That’s why we focus on TNR and supporting affordable spay/neuter for pet owners.
Fewer litters means fewer emergencies like this. Fewer kittens fighting just to survive their first days.

CLAWS isn’t a rescue. We’re building something different—a network that supports caregivers and works to prevent these situations before they ever happen.

If you’ve ever wanted to help but didn’t know how, this is it: Support spay/neuter. Support TNR. Share the message.
Because you don’t fix this at intake.
You prevent it.

Help CLAWS provide spay/neuter!
