Do you know what happens sometimes? I get so invested in my clients and their pups that I forget to share everything that has been happening!

Several new pups have joined different programs, and there has already been so much growth—for both the dogs and their families.

I’ll be honest: I think my body was a little upset that my “break” turned into spending as much time as possible helping my mom recover. There will still be days when I need to adjust my schedule around her ongoing doctor appointments, but I will always communicate that as we plan your sessions.

Now that the housekeeping is out of the way, let’s get back to the pups!

🐾 Willie continues to shine in his Chill Challenge and show everyone what a very good boy he is.

🐾 Reggie has started a Day Training Puppy Program—and he is so smart! Just wait until you see how much this little guy grows.

🐾 A few new teams have begun their journeys with Pawsitive Therapy Dogs. I’m excited to introduce them and share their progress with you soon!

🐾 Daisy joined a Foundations Program to help her adjust to her new home, and she is blowing her skills out of the water! Even more importantly, she is building some beautiful connections with her family.

There has been a lot happening behind the scenes, and I can’t wait to start sharing more of these pups and their progress with you. Every dog’s journey looks a little different, and that is exactly what makes this work so special. 💙

There’s something we rarely talk about in the dog-training world: What happens to your dog if something happens to you?

Over the years, not one, not two, but three clients have asked whether I would take their dog—or help find them a loving home—if they were no longer able to care for them.

At first, I was surprised by the question. Of course, I said I would help. I also suggested they speak with an attorney and put their wishes in writing. What I didn’t fully understand then was how important it is to include our pets in our estate planning.

Most of us assume, “My family will take care of my dog.”

But have you talked with them about it?

Are they willing and able to take on that responsibility? Will your dog fit safely into their home, especially if they already have children or other animals? Would they have the financial resources and information needed to provide the care you want for your dog?

These aren’t easy questions, but making a plan now is one of the most loving things we can do for our pets.

Let’s talk about something that isn’t talked about enough in dog training: real-life calmness.

It’s the calmness that allows your child to put silly glasses on your dog—or the giggles you hear when your dog finds them during a game of hide-and-seek. 🐶😎

Obedience training can take you far, but life skills and everyday manners can take you even further.

Maybe silly glasses and hide-and-seek aren’t your thing. Maybe you’d love to:

🐾 Enjoy a meal at a dog-friendly restaurant
🐾 Grab some ice cream and a pup cup
🐾 Take a casual walk together
🐾 Relax at home without constantly managing your dog

These moments may feel out of reach right now, but they can become achievable.

My approach to training may look a little boring at times. We practice settling, waiting, checking in, and making calm choices—but those “boring” skills create more freedom, confidence, and enjoyable experiences with your dog.

Because the goal isn’t just a dog who knows how to sit.

It’s a dog who can comfortably be part of your everyday life. ❤️🐾

Everyone, please welcome Penny to the Pawsitive Therapy Dogs family! 🐾💙

Penny is almost two years old, and she truly seems like she was born to be a therapy dog. Today, we visited Lowe’s to see how she handled a few of her skills in a new environment—and she was a natural!

I’m excited to watch Penny blossom as she prepares to spread her love and bring comfort to others.

A mammary tumor (breast cancer) is an abnormal growth in the mammary gland that develops due to abnormal reproduction of cells in the breast tissue. Mammary cancer can be benign (locally aggressive) or malignant (with the possibility to spread to the lungs).
Exposure to hormones, specifically estrogen and progesterone, increase the risk of mammary cancer in animals because of the hormones’ effects on mammary cells.
Pets spayed before the first heat have a less than 1% risk of developing mammary tumors.
The most common clinical sign of mammary tumors is one (or more) masses that you can feel underneath the skin of your dog’s or cat's lower chest or belly. The masses may be next to or within the ni**le and follow along the mammary chain. The size of the mass(es) and their appearance may vary, but they are usually firm and nodular.
Surgery is the best treatment for dogs and cats with mammary tumors. A biopsy should be sent out to determine the type of tumor and whether further treatment is needed. If left untreated, mammary tumors can open up and become necrotic and cause sepsis, or metastasize to the lungs.

Sometimes the biggest victories don’t look exciting…

They look like this. 💙🐾

Today, Willie started one of my favorite exercises—the Chill Challenge.

At first, he wasn’t quite sure what the game was all about. After a few repetitions, something wonderful happened…

He let out one BIG yawn.

To many people, that might not seem like much. But in training, it can be a sign that a dog is beginning to relax and let go of some of that mental tension.

From there, Willie settled beautifully for the rest of our session. Even with his puppy siblings nearby, he stayed calm and focused.

This is what we’re really working toward—not a dog that’s simply tired from exercise, but a dog that has learned how to be calm.

Calmness is a skill. Just like loose leash walking or coming when called, it can be taught, practiced, and strengthened over time.

Over the next several weeks, Willie and I will continue building that skill so he can make great choices, even when life around him gets exciting.
