Striving for perfection one feathered friend at a time 🐓🦆

07/20/2023

When you can’t find anything near Standard of Perfection quality birds locally, you seek out the best breeder you can and get those babies overnighted.

The fanciest floofs, Jubilee Orpingtons, soon available at Fancy Feather Farm.

Have you ever seen such a tiny turkey strut?? No question… this little tom thinks he’s the man!

I couldn’t get a Pyrenees to protect my livestock… that would be too easy. 🤣 Meet Cooper, our six-month-old and already massive Spanish Mastiff farm & LGD.

His paws are the size of my hands, and fully grown he will be about 190lbs. He is wrinkly & affectionate but will keep the 🦝 and possums away from my flocks, and we are confident we can safely add new animals without fear of them becoming something else’s dinner.

Almost there little broccoli... I’m afraid you may have come a bit too late. Tennessee forgot to have a spring this year, so summer is coming. 🔥

These little pigments are what make our food red and blue (and of course, purple, a combo of the two.)

Anthocyanin rich foods reportedly can lower blood pressure, improve vision, reduce cancer cells, stop tumor formation and prevent diabetes. Wow! These foods pack a health punch!

I’ve planted lots of reds and purples this year: cimarron romaine (pictured), red acre cabbage, indigo apple and blue cream berry tomatoes and of course my berries! Have you planted any pops of color this year?

If anyone is looking for a visual representation of one of the big benefits of “back to Eden” style gardening, here it is! I’m way past overdue for trimming the grass inside the garden fence (on the right), but the wood chips are keeping the weeds at bay! I only spend 10-15 minutes each week weeding the garden. This method works great for us. What’s working in your garden?

Spilled seeds can become happy accidents. 💚

The shop may smell like a dirty fish 🐠 tank after a recent foliar feeding (thanks to some fish emulsion), but the plant babies are happy. 🌱 ❤️ @ Lebanon, Tennessee

We have field of tomatoes at the shop currently. They’ve really take off this past week. It’s like they know our 🌍 day sale is coming up. 😁😉 @ Lebanon, Tennessee

Can’t believe I started this many cold hardy plants this year. I took it on as a challenge... the most plants I’ve ever grown. Our community needs a source of organic plants and a few gardeners with a teacher’s heart. To those who have stopped by, thank you. The forecast in Tennessee is looking quite gardener friendly. Maybe we’ll make it without another freeze this year. 🤞🏻I’ve got HUNDREDS of tomatoes and peppers I’m dying to get in the ground and share. 🌱 ❤️
