Lebanon Humane Society, Inc, doing business as “Claws and Paws Animal Adoption Center” is a Missouri Non-Profit Organization. Our purpose is to serve the Lebanon/Laclede County region as a limited admission animal shelter which will strive for a 100% adoption rate of shelter animals with no euthanizing for time or space. We will also work to promote humane care of companion animals and educate the

community concerning pet overpopulation. All adoptions include age appropriate vaccinations and dogs are microchipped. If an animal is not already altered the spay or neuter is included in the adoption price if you schedule an appointment to bring the animal back to the shelter for our vet to do. If you choose to take the animal to your own vet, we will give you a certificate and we will cover $32.00 for dogs and $22.00 for cats. Lebanon Vets honor our certificates, but the service may be more than the certificate will cover depending on size and for pain meds. If you rent your home, we must call and verify with the landlord that you can adopt from us. As with all animals adopted here, there is a contract that states if the adopter during anytime of the animal's life can no longer care for under any reason, must return the animal to us. Animals cannot be sold, traded or given away for any reason. We also offer a 14-day return policy, so if for any reason the animal doesn't work out you can return them to us and can do an exchange for another cat or dog, one time only. The contract also states per Missouri law the animal MUST be spayed or neutered within 30 days of the adoption date (depending on age). We have been known to go and take animals back that have not been taken care of or if there is a breach of contract. We are always willing to take strays or animals that the owners can no longer car for if we have the availability. We take these animals by appointment only and as space allows. If you have any questions, please call at 417-532-9671. We also offer low-cost spay and neuter appointments for people living in the Lebanon and Laclede County areas. As well as low-cost vaccinations and $20.00 Microchipping.

🎉 Fundraiser Update! 🎉

One week ago, we launched our fundraiser to build three permanent outdoor shelters for the dogs at Claws & Paws.

Today, we’re excited to announce that $900 has already been donated!

That means we are now 26% of the way to our goal! ❤️

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated, shared our posts, and helped spread the word. Every dollar brings us one step closer to providing much-needed shade and weather protection for the dogs in our care.

These shelters will help our dogs stay more comfortable while enjoying outdoor time, offering relief from the summer sun and protection from Missouri’s unpredictable weather.

We still have $2,580 left to raise, but thanks to your generosity, we’re already well on our way.

If you’d like to help us reach the finish line, donations can be made here:
https://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/SBPND4HANH4XN

Or a physical donation can be made in person or by mail as well! We just ask that you specify that your donation is designated to help with our Outdoor Shelter Fundraiser.

🎉 What a week! 🎉

This past week has been an AMAZING week for adoptions here at Claws & Paws, and it’s all thanks to our incredible community showing up for these deserving animals. We couldn’t be more grateful or proud.

🐱 River, Rowan, Winnie, Chandler, Blue, Gunther, and Lil Bit all found loving homes of their own.

🐶 Cotton, the very last of our puppy litter, finally packed up and headed home with his new family.

❤️ And after an incredible 10 months of waiting, it was finally Ranger’s turn. Watching him walk out the door with his family was a moment we won’t soon forget.

🐾 Minnie, Max, Diesel, Dexter, Shaggy, and Skipper also got their happy endings and started exciting new chapters with their adopters.

That’s 15 lives changed in just one week.

To everyone who adopted, shared posts, volunteered, donated, or helped spread the word—thank you. Every adoption creates space for us to help the next animal in need.

Happy tails, everyone! We can’t wait to see all the updates from your new adventures. 🏡❤️

Meet Athena! This gorgeous 1 year old Border Collie x Australian Shepherd mix is looking for a home that can give her the kind of life she’s been dreaming of. Athena came to us after her previous family made the difficult but loving decision to surrender her when they realized she wasn’t getting the enrichment, structure, and outlet she needed to truly thrive. They wanted her to have the opportunity to find a home better suited for her energy level and intelligence — and we admire them for putting her needs first.

Athena is exactly what you’d expect from a young herding breed mix: smart, active, eager, and absolutely begging for a job to do. She’s the kind of dog that wants to be involved in life. Whether that means hiking, running, learning tricks, playing fetch, exploring trails, or even trying out dog sports, Athena is happiest when both her body and mind are being engaged.

When meeting new people, Athena can be a little bashful at first, but give her a few minutes and her sweet personality starts to shine through. Once she feels comfortable, she becomes affectionate, playful, and eager for attention. She does well with other dogs, doesn’t mind cats, and absolutely lights up around children. Because she gets so excited, she would need supervision and guidance around younger kids — not because there’s a mean bone in her body, but because she still needs help learning manners and can be jumpy when she’s excited.

Her previous owners reported that Athena can become destructive when left alone and bored, but honestly, that’s not unusual for a young, intelligent working breed without enough stimulation. Athena isn’t a “bad” dog — she’s simply a dog that needs an outlet, consistency, and someone willing to invest time into helping her succeed. With exercise, structure, enrichment, and continued training, we truly believe Athena is going to blossom into an incredible companion.

If you’ve been looking for a smart, athletic, loving dog that’s ready to be your adventure buddy and loyal sidekick, Athena may just be your girl.

❤️❤️ ADOPTED! ❤️❤️

Meet Skipper! This darling little 13lbs Chihuahua mix was picked up by animal control and, heartbreakingly, never claimed. We’re guessing she’s around 3–4 years old, and while we can’t say exactly what her past looked like, it’s easy to tell she was someone’s companion at one point in her life. She has the kind of gentle, people-oriented personality that doesn’t happen by accident.

Skipper is a quiet girl with a soft, bashful nature. She isn’t the type to burst into a room demanding attention — instead, she hangs back a little at first, carefully deciding if she can trust you. But once she realizes you’re kind, her sweet personality starts to shine through. And once you become “her person,” she’s absolutely devoted.

It definitely seems like Skipper spent much of her life being carried around and doted on. She loves being close to people and feels safest curled up beside someone she trusts. Because of that, she’s still a little unsure about walking on a leash and exploring the world independently. New things can make her nervous, but she handles them quietly and gently. She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body — she just needs patience, reassurance, and someone willing to help build her confidence.

Skipper has a very calm demeanor overall. She would likely thrive in a quieter home where she can settle in at her own pace and enjoy the simple things: soft blankets, gentle affection, and a cozy lap to call her own. She’s the kind of dog who will form a deep bond with her family and be a loyal little companion through and through.

After somehow ending up unclaimed, we’d love nothing more than for Skipper to finally find the safe, loving forever home she deserves. ❤️

Meet Boudreaux ❤️

This handsome Black & Tan Coonhound has had a harder start to life than any dog should. When Boudreaux was found and brought to us by a kind-hearted individual, it was obvious he had been surviving on his own for quite some time. He came in thin, worn down, and carrying the signs of a dog who’s had to fend for himself.

But despite all of that, Boudreaux has remained one of the sweetest, most easygoing dogs you could ever meet. You would expect a dog with his past to be cautious or shut down — instead, he greets people with a wagging tail and a gentle spirit that’s impossible not to love.

Boudreaux is wonderful with people, gets along well with other dogs, and rides nicely in the car. He has a happy-go-lucky personality and seems happiest just being near you. Whether he’s lounging by your side, following you around the yard, or soaking up affection, he truly just wants to belong somewhere.

Because we don’t know much about his history, we can’t guarantee what kind of home manners he may or may not have. But what we can say is that Boudreaux is eager to please, incredibly kind-hearted, and finally ready for a life where he never has to wonder where his next meal, safe place, or loving hand will come from.

This sweet boy has survived enough hardship already. Now he deserves a soft bed, a caring family, and a home where he can finally just be someone’s beloved dog.

If you think Boudreaux could be the missing piece of your family, please reach out to us about meeting him. 🐾

Say hello to Stanley!

Stanley simply showed up on a gravel road outside of town and decided that the nearest home looked like a good place to introduce himself. The kind family there brought him in, but unfortunately no one ever came forward, so his past is a bit of a mystery.

What we do know is that Stanley is just a genuinely good-natured, happy-go-lucky young dog. We’re guessing he’s a wire-haired terrier mix, likely around 9 months to 1 year old. Roughly 30-35lbs. He’s got that youthful energy and curiosity, paired with an easy social personality that makes him quick to warm up to anyone he meets.

Stanley doesn’t know a stranger—everyone is a friend in his eyes—and he’s always ready for attention, affection, and whatever adventure is next. He seems adaptable and would likely do well in a variety of homes, especially with someone who can continue guiding him through his young-dog stage and help him build on his manners and training.

If you’re looking for a friendly, social companion who’s ready to settle into life with his forever person, Stanley is more than ready to meet you.

At Claws & Paws, we try our hardest to make shelter life as comfortable as possible for the dogs in our care.

But Missouri weather can be brutal — intense sun, heavy rain, storms, wind, and extreme temperatures all take a toll on dogs who are already dealing with the stress of living in a shelter environment.

One of our biggest goals right now is improving the outdoor spaces our dogs use every day by adding permanent shelters that provide reliable shade and protection from the elements.

We are officially fundraising to add THREE outdoor dog shelters to our yard areas. These shelters would provide much-needed shade during the summer months, protection from rain and bad weather, and a safer, more comfortable environment for the dogs in our care.

We’ve already received an estimate from a local company, and the total cost for all three shelters comes to $3,480.

These shelters would be:
🐾 Secure and permanent
🐾 Built specifically for outdoor dog use
🐾 Metal-roofed and weather resistant
🐾 A huge quality-of-life improvement for shelter dogs

Any donation helps — no matter how big or small. ❤️

For those who would like to make a larger contribution, donations of $500 or greater will receive a plaque of dedication placed on one of the shelters as a lasting thank-you for helping make this project possible.

We would also love to partner with local businesses interested in sponsoring this project. Claws & Paws Animal Adoption Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, meaning donations are tax deductible. Business sponsors will also be recognized for helping improve the lives of homeless animals in our community.
