Claws & Paws Animal Adoption Center Animal Shelter. Open Monday-Friday 12:00pm-4:00pm and Saturday 12:00pm-3:30pm. We have an application for everyone who is wanting to adopt to fill out.

Lebanon Humane Society, Inc, doing business as “Claws and Paws Animal Adoption Center” is a Missouri Non-Profit Organization. Our purpose is to serve the Lebanon/Laclede County region as a limited admission animal shelter which will strive for a 100% adoption rate of shelter animals with no euthanizing for time or space. We will also work to promote humane care of companion animals and educate the

community concerning pet overpopulation. All adoptions include age appropriate vaccinations and dogs are microchipped. If an animal is not already altered the spay or neuter is included in the adoption price if you schedule an appointment to bring the animal back to the shelter for our vet to do. If you choose to take the animal to your own vet, we will give you a certificate and we will cover $32.00 for dogs and $22.00 for cats. Lebanon Vets honor our certificates, but the service may be more than the certificate will cover depending on size and for pain meds. If you rent your home, we must call and verify with the landlord that you can adopt from us. As with all animals adopted here, there is a contract that states if the adopter during anytime of the animal's life can no longer care for under any reason, must return the animal to us. Animals cannot be sold, traded or given away for any reason. We also offer a 14-day return policy, so if for any reason the animal doesn't work out you can return them to us and can do an exchange for another cat or dog, one time only. The contract also states per Missouri law the animal MUST be spayed or neutered within 30 days of the adoption date (depending on age). We have been known to go and take animals back that have not been taken care of or if there is a breach of contract. We are always willing to take strays or animals that the owners can no longer car for if we have the availability. We take these animals by appointment only and as space allows. If you have any questions, please call at 417-532-9671. We also offer low-cost spay and neuter appointments for people living in the Lebanon and Laclede County areas. As well as low-cost vaccinations and $20.00 Microchipping.

BACK FROM FOSTER - ASKEM HAS SOME NEWS!

After a whole week in a foster home, Askem is back at the shelter—and he is VERY excited to share what he learned about being a house dog! 🥰

And honestly… we learned A LOT about this boy!

🏠 Not ONE accident in the house!
Askem was completely housebroken during his week away.

🛋️ No crate required!
He wasn’t crated at all and wasn’t destructive. He slept in bed with his foster parents or curled up on the couch and did phenomenally!

🚶‍♂️ He walks beautifully on a leash!
He was a pleasure to take out and about.

🚗 He’s a good car dog!
Car rides? No problem. Askem handled them like a champ.

❤️ And Askem is definitely a man’s dog.
He was good with his foster mom and enjoyed having her around, but his foster dad was clearly his guy. She was more of a secondary human in his eyes. 😂 He really seems to bond strongly with his person and would love nothing more than having a dad of his own to follow around.

Now, we do need to talk about the other animals…

Askem is very controlling of other animals, and because of that, he is NOT a good fit for a home with cats, chickens, livestock, or small animals- unless of course, chasing livestock was his job and he was taught how to do it appropriately. He is a cattle dog after all 😉

We have successfully had him in multi-dog playgroups here at the shelter, so we know he can interact with other dogs. However, during his foster stay, he was a little bit of a bully toward his foster sister. So if Askem were to live with another dog, it would need to be a very carefully matched, special dog.

Askem isn’t going to be the right dog for everyone—and that’s okay.

Because the right person for him is out there.

Someone who wants a loyal, devoted companion. Someone who appreciates a dog with a big personality. Someone who wants a buddy who will ride in the car, walk nicely on leash, curl up on the couch, and apparently… sleep in bed like he owns the place. 😂❤️

This foster week showed us that there is a REALLY good companion hiding underneath all that Askem personality.

Now we just need to find his person. 🐾

🐾❤️ LEO JUST NEEDS SOMEONE TO BELIEVE IN HIM. ❤️🐾

Meet Leo! This handsome Cattle Dog x Retriever mix recently found his way to Claws & Paws after his family realized they simply didn’t have the time to give him the life they felt he deserved.

And honestly? We think they were right about one thing…

Leo deserves more. ❤️

Leo is a little nervous and unsure of himself. He has always been an outside dog and unfortunately missed out on some of the early socialization and experiences that help puppies grow into confident dogs. But underneath that uncertainty is the sweetest boy.

Once Leo gets some attention, he soaks up every single ounce of it. 🥹 He just wants to be near someone, be loved, and feel like he matters.

He has done well around other dogs, cats, and children, too! 🐶🐱👧

Leo isn’t looking for someone who expects him to be perfect from day one. He’s looking for someone willing to invest in him—to give him patience, consistency, guidance, and lots of love.

Give Leo the time he deserves, and we think you’ll get an incredibly loyal and loving companion in return. ❤️

His past may not have given him the best start, but his future can still be amazing.

Now Leo just needs someone willing to help make that future happen. 🐾

🐾 Meet Mishka! 🐾

This approximately 10-month-old Shepherd mix was picked up by Animal Control and, sadly, never claimed. We have no idea how a sweet girl like this ended up on her own, but we’re determined to make sure her next chapter is a much happier one. ❤️

Mishka is a happy, affectionate girl who absolutely does NOT know a stranger! She loves people, loves attention, and is always ready to jump up and say hello. While it seems like she has been loved before, she clearly hasn’t had anyone take the time to teach her all the important things a young dog needs to know.

In true Shepherd fashion, Mishka is energetic, busy, and incredibly curious! She is still very puppyish in both temperament and personality, which means her new family should be prepared to provide plenty of structure, consistency, exercise, and foundation training.

Mishka isn’t looking for someone who wants a couch potato—she’s looking for someone who wants a companion AND a project! 🐕💨

With the right guidance, patience, and an outlet for all that Shepherd energy, we think this girl has the potential to be an incredible dog. If you’ve been looking for an active, happy-go-lucky companion to take on adventures and grow with, Mishka just might be your girl! ❤️🐾
