I had the pleasure of meeting this dog and her amazingly strong humans yesterday. A friend called in a panic because there was an injured dog at a volunteer tent at Sandy Creek who needed immediate medical attention, and they wanted to know if I knew of any vets that were open on a Saturday afternoon. I spoke with one of the owners to give him directions to Liberty Hill Animal Hospital and could tell how upset he was, so I said I would call the front desk to let them know they were coming and meet him there to help them through the process. I later learned that they had survived the flood but suffered damages to their home which is an RV that is now teetering over a ravine (that hadn't been there prior to the flood) and barely balancing on the edge of a cliff.
Sweet Bale is an 81 pound German Shepherd and was an absolute champion with a veterinarian she had never met! She was so stoic and brave. Never whimpered or showed any resistance while being examined and x-rayed. She even only needed the minimum amount of sedation when the puncture from the break on her leg was stitched up.
The break is not a clean break, and we were on pins and needles waiting to hear if the orthopedic surgeon thought her leg could be repaired surgically or if it would need to be amputated. She is 4 years old and in good shape, and they decided that they can do surgery and save her leg by using a plate to help mend the fractured area. They have ordered the plate, and originally scheduled surgery for Wednesday. The plate is arriving sooner than expected and they just moved up the surgery to Tuesday at 630am which is great for Bale, but we have 24 less hours to raise the funds needed for the surgery.
I rarely post about rescue things on this page, and I know so many people have donated to the flood and resources are scarce right now but every little bit adds up! We really want to help a family who has done everything they can do to literally stay afloat, and we also want to help get this ever-so-lovely girl back on all four feet again!
Please if you are able and willing, donations can be made at the following link, and it’s 100% tax deductible! Thank you so much!
