Dr. Holly Wilson graduated from Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. She began working at the Beavers Animal Hospital in Lawton shortly after graduation. Dr. Wilson purchased the clinic in 2000. Dr. Wilson married Jay Wilson in 1996, and they now have two boys - Zak and Bryce. The Wilsons live in Cache, OK. In the doctor's spare time she enjoys competitive barrel racing, cross stitching, and puzzle works. Dr. Wilson has many special areas of interest in the veterinary field, but her specialty is equine reproductive work.

Hot take: hay quality matters just as much in summer as it does in winter. 🌾

Here's something a lot of horse owners don't think about until there's a problem. When pasture quality peaks in early summer, horses on full turnout may actually be taking in less dry matter than you think because fresh grass is mostly water.

Horses still need consistent forage to keep the hindgut moving. Pulling hay entirely when pasture looks great can quietly lead to digestive upset, changes in manure, or unexplained behavior shifts.

A simple rule to keep in mind: forage first, always. Even in June. 🙌
