Some of the most important things we do will never make the evening news.
Today, we met a sweet 18-year-old kitty named Gizmo.
For 18 years, Gizmo was more than just a cat. He was family. A constant companion. A source of comfort through life's ups and downs. His mom loved him enough to recognize what every pet owner dreads—that his body was telling her it was time to let him go.
She knew what the kindest decision was.
She just couldn't afford it.
No one should ever have to watch the friend they've loved for nearly two decades continue to suffer because saying goodbye is financially out of reach.
Through Lily's Fund at the Erie Humane Society, we were able to help connect Gizmo's mom with the assistance she needed so he could pass peacefully, surrounded by love instead of pain.
This is what Crisis Comfort is about.
Sometimes we provide temporary care while someone is in the hospital. Sometimes we help families escaping domestic violence, recovering from addiction, or facing homelessness. And sometimes, we simply stand beside someone on one of the hardest days of their life and make sure money isn't the reason a beloved pet has to suffer.
We believe compassion shouldn't have an income requirement.
As Erie Gives approaches, we're asking for your help. If you're fortunate enough to be in a position to give, please consider making a donation to Crisis Comfort.
Because your gift isn't just a donation.
It's a senior pet finding peace instead of prolonged pain.
It's a family being able to choose love over impossible financial decisions.
It's a reminder that, even on someone's darkest day, their community showed up.
Today it was Gizmo.
Tomorrow, it will be another family who never imagined they would need help.
Thank you for believing that every pet deserves compassion, every family deserves dignity, and no one should have to face these moments alone. ❤️🐾
