The Northest Georgia Animal Shelter is an open admission, non-profit Shelter, supported financially by private donations and funds from eight city and county jurisdictions. We often take in sick and injured animals, feral cats and wild dogs. In these cases, it is our obligation to humanely end the suffering of these animals. We strive to get all of our animals adopted, and often work with rescue g

roups and other local shelters to achieve this. Our maximum capacity is 160 animals. Currently our adoption rate is 30% and we are working hard every day to increase it. We also have a 50% RESCUE rate! Thanks to all the rescues that pull from us. We are very rescue friendly.

💙 Meet Foofur! 💙

This sweet, shy little guy found himself at the shelter after he wandered onto someone’s property. Thankfully, they wanted to make sure he was safe and brought him to us! 🥺🐾

Foofur was found on Westfall Rd. in Royston. He is a 12-pound Terrier, currently unaltered, and understandably a little shy in this new environment. We’re hoping his family is out there looking for their little guy! ❤️

💙 Meet Akamaru! 💙

This sweet boy was brought to the shelter by Hart County Animal Control after being found roaming on Omer Bond Rd. in Hartwell.

Akamaru is a handsome Retriever mix weighing 54 pounds. He is currently unaltered and is hoping his family sees this post and comes looking for him. 🥺🐾

He's safe with us, but we're sure he'd much rather be back home where he belongs, getting spoiled by his people and enjoying all the good things life has to offer! ❤️🏡

🥞 Say hello to Short Stack! 🥞🐶

This sweet boy was brought to the shelter by Lavonia PD last night, and he's hoping his family sees this post and comes looking for him!

Short Stack is a 47.5-pound mixed breed who is currently safe and being cared for at the shelter. But we're pretty sure he'd much rather be back home with his humans, sleeping on his favorite bed and probably trying to convince them that he's definitely allowed on the couch. 😂❤️

Meet Tripod! 🐶❤️

This handsome gentleman was brought to the shelter by Hart County Animal Control after being found on Circle Dr. in Hartwell.

Tripod is a 61-pound German Shepherd with a whole lot of personality packed into one handsome package! 😍 He is well behaved, sweet, and patiently waiting for someone to come looking for him.

We're sure there is a family out there wondering where their handsome boy has gotten off to. Could Tripod be your missing family member? 🥺🏡

🚨 14 LIVES SAVED TODAY. 🚨

Today, 14 animals got a second chance because of our transport program, our incredible rescue partners, and one very dedicated shelter director who was willing to hit the road at 3 AM for a 7-hour drive to get them where they needed to go. ❤️

But saving lives comes with a cost.

Last week, we were $30 short of covering our transport expenses. This week, we’re hoping to raise enough to break even so we can keep our transport account from slowly being depleted.

Here’s the reality: Rescue transfers make up approximately ¾ of our positive outcomes. For the discarded, unwanted and homeless animals of Hart & Franklin Counties, rescue transport is one of their primary lifelines.

When we have rescue partners willing to take them, we need the funds to get them there. Every transport means more kennel space, more opportunities to say YES, and most importantly—more lives saved.
