We are the only shelter in Scotland County, and we are "open admission", which means we must take in all animals collected and impounded by City Police and County Animal Control, owner surrenders and strays from the public. We work very hard to adopt out as many as possible through rescue partners and local adoptions.

Happy National Dog Day from our mascot, Truffles! 🐾❤️

Truffles is a sweet reminder of just how quickly a life can change with adoption. In March 2025, after spending three months with a foster family, Truffles was adopted into her forever home.

In the past year, she has enjoyed beach trips, long naps on the couch, foster siblings, and even getting her nails painted! 🏖️🐶💅

All of this is to say: you can change a life, too. Celebrate National Dog Day by applying to adopt and giving a deserving dog their happily ever after. ❤️🐾

Paizley is 5 years old and has a calm, lower-energy personality. She’s an absolute sweetheart who loves everyone, walks great on a leash, and did wonderfully meeting another dog! 🐶❤️

We are always happy to see animals reunited with their owners! ❤️

Slate was SOOO happy to see his owner today when she came to pick him up. 🥹 Seeing that reunion was such a positive way to start the week!

His owner preferred not to have her picture taken, but we couldn’t let Slate’s happy ending go by without sharing a picture of this sweet boy. 🐾❤️
