Just Shadow. 🖤

Split normally spends her days tucked away in her hide, so today I decided to change things up and see if getting her moving first would make any difference. 🐍 Sometimes it’s worth trying something a little different and letting her decide what she wants to do.
Spoiler: she had opinions.

My Boa Shows Me What She Wants 🐍

Shadow has gotten pretty good at showing me what she wants. 😂

When she comes to the front like this, I give her the option for some supervised time out. Today she cruised around the ReptileStation, explored just about every corner, then headed back home and straight into her hide.

I think we’re getting pretty good at communicating. 🐍

I’ve been giving Shadow more choice-based enrichment lately, and she’s gotten pretty good at letting me know when she wants some time outside her enclosure. 🐍

She’ll come right up to this spot and wait. So I opened the door and gave her the choice.

Your move, Shadow. 😂

Just another day in the reptile room. Split cruising while everybody else does their thing. 😂🐍🦎🐢

Where’s she taking this giant tegu? 👀🦎

He definitely left his mark. 😂

This little alligator made headlines after being found during a federal drug operation in downtown Los Angeles. 🐊

U.S. Fish & Wildlife took custody of him. Just over a week earlier, we had installed a ReptileStation there for confiscated reptiles.

We definitely didn’t expect one of the next animals using it to make the news.

Split was hanging out with me while I worked at my desk. I got distracted, and the next time I looked over, she had tucked herself under the table. My fault. 😂🐍

She wasn’t stuck, but I couldn’t get her out either. So I waited… 8½ hours. Apparently she decided she might as well shed while she was there. 😂

A good reminder why I like giving them plenty of room to explore in a space I can manage.

Bigger Than Snakes.

Sometimes the best ideas become something more than what you first imagined.

This was Mission Viejo. This was SlitherStation. And this was part of the journey.

You don’t usually get to see the details happen this slowly. 👀

Five reptiles. Five very different feeding styles. Filmed at 240 fps so we could slow things WAY down.

Samson and Skye hunting discoids in the ReptileStation, Shadow and Split showing just how fast a snake strike really happens, and Scarlett taking things at a slightly more tortoise-like pace. 😂🐢

Which one would you want to see again in slow motion?
