My rescue dog, Baxter, has been terrified of fireworks since the day I brought him home. Every Fourth of July turned into a nightmare: he'd shake under the bed, pant so hard I worried his heart would give out, and refuse to eat for days after. Last year was the worst: he broke through a window screen trying to escape the noise, resulting in a $300 vet bill, anxiety meds that made him a zombie, and me sitting on the bathroom floor with him for six hours straight while he trembled in my arms. This year, I was dreading it all over again. Then, two days ago, I saw a random tip in a pet group (I've been on there lately, ordering handmade dog beds and treats from amazing crafters). Someone posted about using tennis balls in the dryer to create white noise that masks fireworks. I thought it sounded absolutely insane, but I was desperate enough to try anything. So, tonight, before the fireworks started, I threw six tennis balls, an old sneaker, and a knotted towel into the dryer. I turned off the heat and let it run. The steady thumping sound filled the house, and I waited, holding my breath, for Baxter's usual panic to start. Nothing. The first firework went off; he lifted his head, looked around, and went back to sleep. I actually started crying. For the first time in three years, my dog is sleeping peacefully on July 4th instead of hiding and shaking. He's been passed out on the couch for two hours now, completely unbothered, while the neighborhood explodes around us. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the ones that save you. If your dog struggles tonight, try this; it might just change everything.

MORE PETS GO MISSING ON NEW YEAR'S EVE than any other day of the year except July 4th! PLEASE ... don't let yours become a statistic ... TAKE PRECAUTIONS TO ENSURE THEY WILL BE SAFE Even small fireworks shot off by neighbors is enough to send pets running blindly in fear at full speed! Here are some suggestions to help keep them out of danger and keep their stress level to a minimum:
👉 Check fences and gates to make sure they're secure, and look for holes and other ways they can escape.
👉BETTER YET ... keep your pets safely indoors ... and make sure they can't bolt through a temporarily opened door.
👉 Make sure your dog is wearing a collar with tags - and that the info on the tags is current!
👉Turn on soothing music to help drown out the sounds of any fireworks in your area. Running tennis balls in your dryer drowns out the sounds too.
👉 Thundershirts can be quite calming for some nervous dogs. Most retail pet supply stores carry them.
👉 Is your dog microchipped? If so, make sure the chip your contact information is current.
We wish everyone a SAFE and HAPPY New Year's Eve!

Fourth of July Holiday = Pets worst Holiday

If you have found a dog this year, you are aware of difficulty of getting the dog picked up by animal control. AND taking the dog directly to the shelter.... you are being turned away and told to make an appointment.
*** YOUR DOGS LIFE IS IN DANGER IF HE/SHE BECOMES ONE OF THE THOUSANDS OF STRAYS DUE TO THE FIREWORKS.🥹 Use common sense and prepare for this holiday.

👉COLLARS AND TAGS with correct information
👉DO NOT walk your dog after dusk
👉Make sure your dog is on a leash in the backyard after dusk
👉DO NOT leave your dog outside unattended
👉Leave the TV or radio on and at the highest volume possible to
drown out the noise. NOTHING will help with the vibrations that
they will feel.. that you can't.
👉Please stay home with your dog
👉DO NOT give your dog human medication
👉DO NOT take your dog to watch the fireworks. Be very careful
about taking them to a firework party. Not only do they not
come to you if they are scared, but now they are in a new place
that will make them just as scared.
👉Reminder the fireworks will start days/weeks before and end
days/weeks after.
👉PLEASE keep them safe, they do not understand nor enjoy this
holiday.
