Sneezing, swelling, or sudden hives on your pet? It could be more than just a bug bite.

As the desert cools down, allergens shift, and allergic reactions are one of the emergencies we see pick up this time of year. Bee stings, spider bites, new plants, even certain medications can trigger a reaction, and some escalate fast.

🚨 Signs of an allergic reaction:
β€’ Facial swelling, especially around the muzzle or eyes
β€’ Hives or raised bumps on the skin
β€’ Excessive scratching or hot spots
β€’ Vomiting or diarrhea
β€’ Difficulty breathing or wheezing
β€’ Sudden weakness or collapse (anaphylaxis)

βœ… What to do:
β€’ Note what your pet was exposed to before symptoms started
β€’ Mild swelling and itching still warrants a call, it can worsen quickly
β€’ Difficulty breathing, collapse, or severe swelling is a true emergency, come in immediately
β€’ Do NOT give human antihistamines without veterinary guidance on dosage

When in doubt, don't wait it out. We're here to help.

We're here every night, every weekend, and every holiday.

Dogs explore the world with their mouths, and sometimes that curiosity lands them in our ER.

Foreign body ingestion, when a pet swallows something they shouldn't, is one of the most common emergencies we treat. Socks, toys, rocks, string, bones... if it fits, some pets will try to eat it.

🚨 Signs your pet may have swallowed something dangerous:
β€’ Repeated vomiting or retching
β€’ Loss of appetite
β€’ Lethargy or hiding
β€’ Straining to defecate or no bowel movements
β€’ Abdominal pain or a bloated belly
β€’ Drooling excessively

βœ… What to do:
β€’ Do NOT induce vomiting without veterinary guidance, some objects cause more damage coming back up
β€’ Do NOT give food or water if you suspect an obstruction
β€’ Keep an eye on what's missing from around the house (a chewed toy, an empty wrapper) and bring it with you
β€’ Come in right away, obstructions can become life-threatening fast

If your pet ate something they shouldn't have, don't wait to see if it passes on its own. Come in.

We're here every night, every weekend, and every holiday.

It happens in an instant. A car. A fall. A dog fight. A door that closed too fast.

Trauma is one of the most common emergencies we see β€” and what you do in the first few minutes can make a critical difference.

🚨 Signs your pet may have internal injuries even if they look okay:
β€’ Pale, white, or blue-tinged gums
β€’ Rapid or labored breathing
β€’ Sudden weakness or inability to stand
β€’ Distended abdomen
β€’ Collapse or loss of consciousness
β€’ Hiding or unusual stillness after an incident

βœ… What to do before you reach us:
β€’ Keep your pet as still and calm as possible
β€’ If bleeding, apply gentle pressure with a clean cloth
β€’ Do NOT give any pain medications β€” many are toxic to pets
β€’ Transport carefully β€” use a flat surface or blanket as a stretcher if needed
β€’ Call ahead so we can be ready when you arrive

Internal injuries aren't always visible. If your pet has been through any kind of trauma, don't wait to see if they seem fine. Come in.

We're here every night, every weekend, and every holiday.

There are a lot of emergency vet options in Las Vegas. Here's what makes us different.

Animal Emergency Center of Las Vegas and Henderson is the valley's only locally owned, independent emergency animal hospital. That means no corporate protocols dictating your pet's care. No out-of-state management making decisions. Just experienced local veterinarians who genuinely care about this community.

We've been here since 1997 β€” through every summer, every holiday, every 2am emergency. We're not going anywhere.

Every night. Every weekend. Every holiday.

Las Vegas is beautiful β€” but it's also home to some dangerous wildlife.

Black widows, rattlesnakes, and scorpions are a year-round reality in the Mojave, and pets are far more vulnerable to their venom than most people realize.

🚨 Signs your pet may have been envenomated:
β€’ Sudden limping or swelling at the bite site
β€’ Muscle tremors or weakness
β€’ Difficulty breathing
β€’ Drooling, vomiting, or collapse
β€’ Extreme pain or crying out

βœ… What to do:
β€’ Stay calm and keep your pet still β€” movement spreads venom faster
β€’Try to keep the animal calm and not allow them to move around excessively
β€’ Do NOT apply a tourniquet or try to suck out venom
β€’ Get to an emergency vet immediately β€” time is critical

If you live in or near the desert, this is one emergency to be prepared for before it happens. AEC stocks rattlesnake antivenom.

We're here every night, every weekend, and every holiday.

Happy National Dog Day! 🐾 Today we're celebrating by sharing something every dog owner should know.

GDV β€” Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus, commonly called Bloat β€” is one of the most life-threatening emergencies we see, and it can happen to any dog.

Bloat occurs when the stomach fills with gas and twists on itself, cutting off blood supply. It can go from onset to fatal in a matter of hours.

🚨 Signs of Bloat:
β€’ Distended, hard, or swollen belly
β€’ Unproductive retching or dry heaving
β€’ Restlessness and inability to get comfortable
β€’ Excessive drooling
β€’ Pale gums
β€’ Rapid, shallow breathing

βœ… Higher risk dogs include large and deep-chested breeds like Great Danes, German Shepherds, Standard Poodles, and Weimaraners β€” but any dog can be affected.

If you notice these signs, do not wait. This is a true emergency.

We're here every night, every weekend, and every holiday.

The Dog Days of Summer are here β€” and in Las Vegas, that's not just a saying.

With temperatures regularly hitting 110Β°F+, heat prostration (heat stroke) is one of the most common β€” and most preventable β€” emergencies we see every summer.

Here's what every pet owner needs to know:

🚨 Signs of heat prostration in pets:

β€’ Heavy, rapid panting
β€’ Excessive drooling
β€’ Bright red or pale gums
β€’ Weakness, stumbling, or collapse
β€’ Vomiting or diarrhea
β€’ Glazed eyes or confusion

βœ… How to prevent it:

β€’ Never leave your pet in a parked car β€” even for a few minutes
β€’ Walk dogs early morning or after sunset when pavement cools
β€’ Always provide fresh, cool water and shade
β€’ Limit outdoor activity when temps exceed 90Β°F
β€’ Check the pavement β€” if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws

If you suspect heat stroke, move your pet to a cool area, apply cool (not cold) water to their body, and get to an emergency vet immediately.

We're here every night, every weekend, and every holiday.
