Let’s skip to the good part. 🥹❤️

This is Summit recovering the day after surgery. 🐾

But getting here was a journey that took our community. ♥️

Summit was rescued as a stray from Mt. Charleston with his entire GI tract packed with rocks. Thankfully, he passed quite a lot of them on his own, but then a splenic mass required emergency surgery. That’s when Summit came to us, and we were able to remove the mass and the remaining rocks.

We were honored to help our friends at Hearts Alive care for this sweet boy.

A big thank you to Rhodes Ranch for caring for Summit, and to Bing, Zo & Co. for saving him and giving him this chance. ❤️

Keep fighting, Summit. We’re rooting for you. 🐾

Help us welcome Dr. Isabelle Vernaz to our Emergency team!

Dr. Vernaz is a Nevada native, born and raised in Reno, who recently made her way back home after completing her DVM at Midwestern University and an Emergency & Critical Care internship in San Antonio, Texas.

She has a special interest in emergency and feline medicine and is passionate about making the hospital experience as calm and comfortable as possible for her patients.

When she’s not at the hospital, she heads home to a pretty full house of her own: two cats, Milo and Lilah, and two Golden Retrievers, Flapjack and Blueberry. So it’s safe to say she spends a lot of her time surrounded by animals both at work and at home.

We’re so happy to have her back in Nevada and even happier to have her as part of our Emergency team.

Pillow had to have his face shaved for treatment, so Nurse Jessica knitted him his very own visor to help keep his face clean while he healed. He came back for his recheck looking adorable—and healing beautifully.

A rescue that truly took a village. 🐾❤️‍🩹

⚠️ Sensitive medical images—but thankfully, a very happy ending.

This brave little kitten arrived at our hospital with a thick iron piece from a plant stand impaled through his mouth—and the stand was still attached.

A huge thank-you to the Clark County Fire Dept , including Captain Barlow, Engineer Davies, Firefighter Klein, and Firefighter Corbridge, along with 311 operator Savannah, for helping our team safely cut and remove the metal.

The procedure was carefully overseen by Dr. Erika Fauth, Dr. Quellhorst and anesthesiologist Dr. Congdon. Once the metal was removed, surgeon Dr. Sue Hunter immediately surgically treated the wound.

And the best news of all? No bones were broken! This tiny fighter recovered well and was discharged by the end of the day. 🐱💪

Last week was Spirit Week, and each day had its own theme—Musical Monday 🤘, Team Tuesday (go sports 🏈 ⚽️🏀⚾️!), Tropical Thursday 🌺 , and Flashback Friday 💿💾.

Some days were louder 🎸, some more colorful 🎨 , and some took us straight back in time 📹.

Moonshine came to us not feeling well, and we found a large mass on one of his kidneys. Dr. Wood performed a nephrectomy, and Moonshine spent some time recovering with our PACU team.
