The babies are out and about and all I can say is they are amazing! We did have to rehome 1 due to the parents not wanting her in the box. We feared something was wrong and for everyones safety we placed her in amazing home where she is doing well. I took pictures of everyone here and I cant stop staring at them very excited for these babies to grow up and the future.

Just when I was losing hope trying to get these guys to reproduce this clutch comes along. 7 eggs 7 babies. 7th just hatched right now. All 6 are doing well. Despite the age gap. I am beyond words! Ive never had a hen have 7 fertile eggs. Ive known of 1 who raised 6 in a clutch 2x in a row once a few years back but this gives me so much hope Im doing something right 🥹

Every year with these birds we learn something new. The only survivor from our first clutch sadly passed today while I was at work. He was small for his age was going 2 weeks and barely had pins and was not skin and bones but was lighter for his age as he grew his spine looked extremely crooked and he wasnt splay legged as he walked around he was just widely stanced. Wasnt very vocal til about 2 days before he passed. Ive had 2 birds like this so far. 1 was born with my friend and had lived to about 5yrs the 2nd is still with us we call her squishy she was born here with me last year. I am now more curious than ever to find the cause of these Squishy birds. Is it nutritional?moms sitting on them too tight? Something else? And with that I will be getting the 2 parent birds tested as soon as I can as well as doing a deep dive into their pedigrees and checking to see if theres a relative in common that may have caused it. Its never easy when we lose a bird. Sadly due to a lack of available resources reading materials it has been one of the ways in which one learns about these birds. So the next time we do better. Enjoy your week and God Bless everyone

Hello to all of our followers. Hope everyone has been having a good week so far. Since there are not many updates to post with new babies or birds, as we are taking things thoughtfully and at a slower pace, I wanted to start sharing some information based of everything that I have learned about keeping birds for almost 25 years now. In these posts youll find information on everything you need to know about Housing, Diet, Breeding, as well as things that most people wont tell you. Ive seen far too many bird enthusiasts give up or have tragedies hit them because of the lack of information available when it comes to our feathered friends. So on our page I will be posting weekly and sharing links or self written material for everyone to have access to and save or print or use as a reference to help out. Id love to hear from you as well about any current topics and learn your experiences. I learned alot from those who went into birds way befofe me and their knowledge has helped me so many times I am forever grateful for it. Stay tuned and I wish You all a wonderful rest of the week.

First 2 babies hatched and we are super excited. Not putting up too many pairs this year as we are allowing the rest of our seniors to get as much time from us as they can so we can focus on them and give them the best of whats left. We have about 10 birds right now ranging from 4 upto 9 yrs old and for the older bunch they wont be here for long and I decided that instead lf focusing on more birds/babies this year that I would much rather give my seniors more time. They have earned their place and are just as deserving. They all sadly grow old and eventually pass so this year I am enjoying these birds and spending time watching them as much as I can until their time comes and I can no longer enjoy them when they pass.

Isnt she just the sweetest. Everyone meet "SK" the last baby from our amazing pair band #'s 834 and 824. I usually dont name my birds unless theyre tamed and SK was perfect as she is my little sidekick. Her mom had 1 clutch before her 4 babies but i fostered 1 to a hen who had eggs that didnt hatch. 2 of them will be showing soon. SK came from the 2nd and last clutch I had planned from 824 and 834. But momma seemed to loose interest halfway through. She had done so amazing the first round I was confident she would do great with the 2nd. But when I went to check on them one day out of 4 there were 3 left. The youngest hatched 7 days after SK but momma kept everyone good. After the last baby turned 1 week old is when everything spiraled downhill. Youngest baby passed so I took out then checked crops on everyone they were being fed by dad mom wasnt hurting them and I let them be. Next day 3rd baby was gone too so I decided to pull everyone. SK and her sibling then take out the box from mom and dad while I did a quarantine on them to go back in my retired bird flight. SKs sibling did good for 3 days but did not make it. It was very scary and we tried everything we were down to 1 and Im going to tell you she is one tough cookie. In nature they say its all about survival of the fittest and we all need birds like that in our aviary. Hardy and can bkunce back up. But regardless of that I still do everything I can to save my babies offcourse. SK was one of the most resillient chicks Ive had in a while. She made it weaned and she stayed tame. Something I dont find too often with these birds theyre easy to handle ues but not tame to always come up for head rubs etc specially in hens. She also learned to copy my whistle. I tried introducing her to other young birds. She screeched and freaked out so we didnt force it. She is a people bird and she let us know it. I did at one point talk to someone who wanted a pet but they never came through for her and I decided she would be my sidekick forever. It has been a journey and its just begun. Miss SK will be going to a bird show in 1 week and I am quite excited to see how she does. I will post updates so keep an eye for it to see how her and her gorgeous brothers do. Wish us luck!
