Hi everyone, this is Bryan Rilenge, and I wanted to give you an update on where things stand.
I am still dealing with the same challenges I’ve shared with you before: no functional vision, difficulty navigating, inability to read screens or printed text, inability to watch television, use a computer independently, drive, read a prescription bottle, identify people or objects, or safely move through unfamiliar places without assistance.
The hardest part of all of this is accepting that it is permanent. There are no treatments, surgeries, medications, implants, magnification, or corrective lenses that can restore my vision. Learning to live with that reality has been one of the most difficult things I’ve ever faced.
I do have some good news to share.
Because of the severity of my permanent vision loss, which resulted from stroke-related damage in January, I have been approved for Social Security Disability. That is a tremendous relief.
Unfortunately, because of the way the Social Security process works, I will not receive my first benefit until August 16th, and that payment will be for the month of July. So while there is finally an end in sight, I still have to make it to August 16th.
Right now, I urgently need help with prescriptions, food, housing, and other basic necessities while I bridge that gap.
If you are able, please consider contributing to or sharing the GoFundMe that has been set up for my benefit:

I cannot adequately express how grateful I am for everyone who has donated, shared, encouraged, or prayed for me over these past months. Your kindness has helped carry me through one of the most difficult seasons of my life.
There is finally a light at the end of the tunnel. But from where I’m standing today, August 16th still feels a long way away.
Anything you can do to help me reach that day would be deeply appreciated.
Thank you.
Bryan
