Last week Snickers the 1 year old Labrador Retreiver came in to be neutered with Dr. Fujikawa. Neutering is a routine surgical procedure performed under general anesthesia. Our veterinary team carefully removes the testicles while closely monitoring your pet throughout surgery and recovery. Our vets typically like to wait until their patients are over 6 months old to be spayed or neutered.
Health benefits of neutering includes eliminating testicular cancer, reducing prostate problems, decreases roaming and injuries, and preventing unwanted litters.
Health benefits of spaying prevents pyometra and eliminates reproductive cancers, significantly reduces the chance of painful and fatal mammary (breast) tumors, especially when done before the first heat cycle, and preventing unwanted litters.
After surgery, itβs normal for your dog to be sleepy, have a decreased appetite, or experience mild soreness, swelling, or bruising around the incision.
Call your veterinarian if you notice any excessive swelling or bleeding, discharge, severe pain, repeated vomiting, difficulty breathing, or an incision that opens.
During recovery, keep your pup calm, limit running and jumping, and prevent licking or chewing at the incision.
