Could a change in diet cure your dog's cancer?...

In an unassuming gated compound in Georgetown, Texas, something amazing is taking place. KetoPet Sanctuary is taking in shelter dogs with incurable, terminal cancer—dogs with no other options who would otherwise be euthanized—and giving them a second chance, providing them with state of the art canc...

Right now, on a 53-acre plot of land outside Austin, Texas, we at KetoPet Sanctuary (KPS) are doing something incredible. This isn’t your typical canine rescue facility. KPS goes out of its way to rescue dogs with incurable, terminal cancer. Our goal isn’t to provide hospice-like treatment for termi...

Excellent advice.

Contrary to popular belief, poinsettias are not life-threatening to pets. Other holiday decorations can be far more hazardous.

Same goes for horse troughs. I use vinegar as a non-toxic cleaner to scrub the animal bowls and troughs.

THE INVISIBLE SLIMY MONSTER IN THE WATER BOWL

Ever rub your fingers on the inside of your pet's water bowl and you feel a slippery slime of sorts? Well that invisible goo is called Biofilm.

Biofilm is a collection of organic and inorganic, living and dead materials collected on a surface. It is made up of many different types of bacteria bound together in a thick substance that acts as a glue to both hold the bacteria together and adhere it to a surface.

Biofilm can often be good bacteria but there is also the bad!

Biofilms provide a safe haven for organisms like Listeria, E. coli and legionella where they can reproduce to levels where contamination of products passing through that water becomes inevitable.

Bad Biofilms have been found to be involved in a wide variety of microbial infections in the body such as urinary tract infections, middle-ear infections and bladder infections.

Many pet parents are guilty of simply refilling the water bowl over and over without a wash and this becomes a wonderful environment for biofilm to soak around in.

How to reduce Biofilm:

Remember to clean your pet’s water bowl at least once a week if you can and change water daily.

For pet daycares where a host of different bacteria float around in water bowls, wash daily!

For best results, run your water bowls through a hot cycle in the dishwasher with an eco friendly, non-toxic soap to really clean out the biofilm!

"An educated, informed and well-researched community of pet owners can only put more pressure on the pet food industry to be better! When pet owners know better, they will only do better!"

(P.S. - I am going to get lambasted over the "wash once a week at least" concept. However, after a wonderful discussion with a well known pro-active veterinarian/scientist, when she studied the bacteria looming in pets' water bowls she found if you have a healthy beast, biofilm can actually be full of wonderful, healthy bacteria. It's like playing in the mud as kids and having good bacteria all over you! So sometimes cleaning regularly can wash all the good stuff away. ;) )

Please crate your animals when traveling. I know of too many who did not survive as they were thrown through windows on impact. If you can't crate them, restrain them with a harness. It goes without saying that they should never ride in the front seat for risk of airbag injury with even minor accidents. I know they love to put their heads out the window, but you can never plan for unforeseen dangers while driving. Better off safe.

Mark from Kustom Krates asked for some testimonials. These photo's are of an accident my husband was in. Mark's Krates and his creativeness are awesome but in the long run these Krates save lives. These photo's of the crash he was involved in are the sole reason we would never buy anything other than a Kustom Krate.

Long story short, husband was stopped at a freeway metering light in his unmarked narcotics Durango. Hit from behind by a lifted 4X4 Dodge PU at 45 mph. No idea the motorcyclist was behind him; an Iraq war veteran just returned home. He lived!

The box of gloves and yellow under the MC is his raid vest which was strapped down to the top of the Kustom Krate. He was parked behind the white line seen to the rear of the truck. The Fire Department had to use the "jaws of life" to open the rear of the car and were amazed the Krate was solid, unscathed, and actually helped minimize the damage. My husband received a couple of bulged discs and K9 Maya had a Krate full of glass but a clean bill of health from the vet. I should add that this dog asset seized 7 million dollars in drug proceeds in the two years following this accident. My husband can't imagine the final few years of his career without her. There are other dog crates out there but the money you save could cost you your best friend. Mark, can you build a Krate for the driver? This driver tends to need one.
