Springer Spaniel Rescue, Inc. Western USA Region

Springer Spaniel Rescue, Inc. Western USA Region Springer Spaniel Rescue, Inc. helps all ages of English Springer Spaniels in the Western US find forever homes where they are loved and cared for.

English Springer Spaniels are highly intelligent, happy, and people-oriented, making the Springer an ideal companion for people in urban to rural settings. Springers are extremely affectionate, loyal dogs and require daily love and attention from their human companions. As a hunting breed, they are quite intelligent and alert. While quite energetic as younger dogs, older Springers are usually happ

y to just share time and space with their owner. They are less demanding in terms of daily exercise and are great "people dogs."

🐾 RENO NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOSTER-TO-ADOPT! 🐾

Sweet Reno is just 3 years old, 40 lbs., neutered, vaccinated, and desperately needs a safe place to land.

Reno lost his home through no fault of his own when his owner lost their housing. After spending his entire life in a home, the shelter environment has been very stressful and scary for him.

We would love to get Reno out of the shelter and into a loving home where he can decompress and feel safe again.

If you can foster or would like to foster-to-adopt Reno, please reach out!

ā—Send a message or Email
[email protected] or [email protected]
ā—Please apply to foster or adopt on our website;

Reno is in a shelter in Reno, NV

Notes from shelter;

Reno lived with children ages 6, 7, 8, and 12. He was reported to do well with them and ā€œknew not to jump.ā€ He did not interact with children outside the home but enjoyed familiar humans.
He interacted with unfamiliar people and was reported to warm up after a few moments, solicit attention, and do well with them.
Reno lived with other dogs and was described as "loving to play." In environments with multiple large dogs, such as a dog park, he reportedly became overwhelmed and would growl/ cower behind his owner.
The former owner reported resource-guarding behavior around high-value items when another resident dog approached while Reno was eating or had a treat. Reno would reportedly growl or snarl, and the behavior stopped when the other dog moved away. No altercations were reported.
Similar behavior was reported when unfamiliar people attempted to interact with him while he was eating. No bites were reported.
Reno has not lived with cats but was reported to chase them. The former owner was unsure what Reno would do if he caught one.
He has not lived with small animals but reportedly chased rabbits and squirrels on the property.
Reno previously escaped over short fencing approximately once per week. The fencing was raised more than a year ago, and no further escapes were reported.
He is crate trained but may growl when another dog approaches his crate while he is inside.
During an on-leash dog interaction in our care, Reno successfully participated in a parallel walk. When the other dog became more forward during the greeting, Reno moved away and hid behind the handler.
Our observations in the shelter have varied depending on the interaction and handler. In his kennel, Reno may display loose, affiliative body language and solicit attention from some staff. During other interactions, he has initially presented this way before becoming still, visually fixating, and vocalizing or reacting in response to the handler’s movements.
On two occasions outside the kennel, Reno was reported to display play bows and affiliative behavior before becoming stiff and fixating on either a new handler entering the room or a fake tester dog that was in an elevated area being stored. He did not lunge or growl during these observations. Because staff could not confidently predict whether the behavior might escalate, they called him away and returned him to his kennel without incident. Staff have not identified a consistent or immediate trigger for these changes in body language and overall demeanor.
Reno accepts petting and physical contact from familiar handlers but may display increased caution or distrust around unfamiliar people - in our environment so far. Because his kennel presentation and responses to staff have been inconsistent, we are seeking placement with a rescue familiar with his breed characteristics and able to provide a more consistent environment. We believe he would benefit from an experienced adopter who can recognize his body-language signals, allow relationships to develop gradually, and appropriately manage his reported resource guarding. An owner that is Springer behavior knowledgeable would find a lot of these behaviors to be in line with the breed and may have better interactions

LOCATED NEAR SEATTLE - This is Bobbie . He is 9 years old and is looking for a new home. Due to some medical issues of his mom she has decided that she is no longer able to provide the care for Bobby that he deserves. This is what his owner has to say about him:

"He initially does not do well with other dogs as he barks at them. He can be calmed down quickly by getting him away from other dogs. In the past, however, he lived with a dog for 3 years so he can learn to live with another dog

Bobbie has a gentle, caring disposition with people meeting him on his walks. He loves to be petted and almost always lays down for belly rubs . He is excellent with kids. Always wants to lick their faces. He has never bitten anyone

He doesn’t have any medical issues. He does have a problem with buildup in his ears, like all dogs with drooping ears. I clean his ears weekly and put vinegar in almost daily. It neutralizes bacteria.
He does have a few lipoma on his body, but the vet said there’s nothing to worry about and they don’t bother him.
He is up-to-date with all his vaccinations.

Bobbie’s Behavior is very laid-back. He loves to be on the bed or the couch. He loves to be petted. He’s always happy to see me. He does occasionally jump up on people, but gets down immediately. He is a very happy dog who just wants to be around family.
He is very good with cats. I’ve had cats in the past and Bobbie has treated them like his brother and sister. Once he warms up with them,he’s been known to sleep and cuddle up with a cat.
He is just a nice, friendly special boy who I would love to find a home for".

COURTESY POST ONLY, Ember is not with SSRI

ā€œEmber is a sweet, affectionate, and very snuggly English Springer Spaniel who loves being close to her people. She is high-energy, athletic, and happiest when running and playing fetch with her tennis balls. Most of the time, she is gentle, loving, and eager to connect. Ember has had isolated incidents of aggression toward other dogs, including our male Springer, likely related to resource guarding or protective behavior. She has never shown aggression toward humans. Due to dog-on-dog incidents, we believe she would do best as the only dog in the home. She currently lives with us and our new baby and has been so gentle and loving with her, but out of caution we are seeking a home with no babies or toddlers (older kids would be okay). Medical: Over a year ago, Ember broke her back right leg and had surgery with a titanium plate placed. She has been fully cleared by her vet and has no ongoing issues. Ember is deeply loved, and we are committed to finding her a safe, stable home where she can thrive.ā€
She is 3 years old, spayed and up to date on vaccines.
Located Denver, Colorado area.

HELP!!!!

We are in great need of fosters through the west and most especially the Pacific Northwest. Please, we cannot help pups if we don't have fosters to provide a temporary home for them.
We need to learn about their needs and wants, get any vet work done and give them lots of love.
Please go to springerspanielrescue.org and fill out our application. You can also text or call me (Anita) at 907-231-3928.

We have been swamped in Washington and Oregon and that is where our greatest need is, but we do need fosters throughout our territory.

***PHOENIX, AZ***

Dixie has been one week with her foster mom and the last couple of days has really begun to blossom. She’s taken some time to adjust which is understandable after living all alone. We think she has some hearing loss so she needs to keep her on a leash on her walks. She’s been giving her pool therapy and today she went in the pool by herself to swim. Mom is teaching her the steps to get out. She allowed her to brush her teeth with no problem. She’s eating well and loved their family car ride they took together. She is good with Summer but Sadie is still growling at her occasionally so Dixie keeps her distance and won’t get on the bed when Sadie is there. She’s learning and already like a whole new dog. šŸ’žšŸ¤—

UPDATE: I met Tyler this afternoon and he is a wonderful loving dog. The barking issue appears to be minimal and he is responsive to correction. Typical velcro Springer, is very well trained and will make someone a great dog. PLEASE consider fostering him as he really needs to move to a different neighborhood.

Looking for a foster - LOCATED IN VANCOUVER, WA

Tyler is a 5 year old Springer male who is looking for a new home. He is being rehomed due to some behavioral challenges (he is a barker when outside) as well as some family health issues and they are no longer able to give him the attention he needs. He is up to date on his vaccinations, neutered and about 50 pounds. He does good with other dogs but not sure about how he does with cats. He is in a home with retired folks so am not sure how he is with little chilcren. He likes his toys, does good at the vets and has yet to experience swimming. If you are interested in fostering Tyler please email be at [email protected] or call me at 720-314-1695. While I appreciate all your comments I am finding that many people are not receiving my responses so I would encourage you that if you do respond about fostering please check and see if I have responded to your comment.
