Watcha know Wednesday! We’re always posting these cute chinchillas! Here’s some interesting information about water safety with them! Fun fact, chinchillas have 60-70 hairs per follicle and that extremely dense fur can actually become moldy if they get wet!
💧 Drinking water: Absolutely necessary. Chinchillas need constant access to fresh drinking water.
🌧️ A few drops on the fur: Usually not an emergency. Blot the area and make sure it dries.
🛁 Falling into water/getting soaked: More concerning. Dry them promptly, keep them comfortably warm without overheating them, and contact an exotic-animal veterinarian for advice—particularly if they’re shivering, lethargic, cold, or behaving abnormally.
🧼 Bathing: Don’t routinely bathe a chinchilla with water. They use chinchilla dust baths instead.
