A little over 10 years ago I saw Brisco running down the side of the Skyway in Paradise, CA on my lunch break. It took some pretty serious convincing on my part, but I eventually got Brisco to trust me enough to jump into my Xterra. He was dirty, skinny, and covered in fleas. At that time I was working at Colyer Veterinary Service so I took him back to work with me for an exam. Aside from the fleas, which we treated him for, he appeared very healthy. We scanned him for a microchip and found he had originally come from the Butte Humane Society down the hill and his name was “Spot”. Because he had a microchip, and Dallas and I had two dogs already, I decided to take him to the Paradise Animal Shelter so they could find his owner. As I put him in the kennel and began to walk away, he leaned against the door, looked back over his shoulder at me and started to howl. I almost started to cry. The lady at the shelter said they had to send a letter to the last known owner and legally had to give them three days to respond. As I found out over the next few days that no one contacted seemed to know where his “owner” was nor seemed to be concerned that Brisco had gone missing, I felt more and more that Brisco and I had crossed paths for a reason and he needed to come home with me. So on the day he was available for adoption, I called the shelter before they even opened and said I’d be down on my lunch to pick him up. This was the very first picture I ever took of him, at the shelter on the day I brought him home. 🐶💕

I finally mustered up the nerve to call the photographer who did the “Photos With Santa” in early December. It took all I had in me not to break down and cry on the phone when he said “I hope you and Brisco have a great year!” 😢🐶💔
So here are a few of Brisco’s pictures with Santa. And because I LOVE getting photos of Brisco making stupid faces, here are a few outtakes as well. 🐶💕

It's funny, the things you do out of habit that you don't even realize. I am definitely guilty of being incredibly accommodating of my animals. You know, sleeping in the most uncomfortable position because god forbid you disturb one of the cats! Some might say I'm a bit crazy, but I don't care. Here's a perfect example.......
I've known plenty of people who have the kind of dogs who wake them up at 4:30am without fail every morning. Brisco was NOT that dog! He would sleep all day if I let him. (I used to say he was "conserving energy") I tested that theory one day when I was home studying on the weekend to see how late he would sleep in. He didn't come out of my room until 1:30pm!! Knowing his love for sleeping in, I would let him sleep as long as I could on work days and wake him up at the last minute with "c'mon buddy, it's time to get up". What I didn't realize, until now that he's gone, is how I would stumble around my room in the dark because I didn't want to turn the light on and disturb him while he slept. Crazy?? Maybe. But I love that little spotted dog more than I can express and would do anything to make him happy. 🐾🐶
I love you buddy, and I miss you like crazy!!

My quest for snow has proven to be a difficult one. Slim pickins out there. But I shall not give up. I will be doing a little snow dance in my sleep tonight in hopes Mother Nature will send some my way. ❄️💕🐶
