Sometimes rescue is about saying "yes" when every logical reason says "not today."
Late yesterday, a man arrived with two kittens he'd found. He cared enough to try to help them, but he wasn't in a position to keep them and wasn't sure what to do next.
The kittens—sisters now named Fish and Chips—were only about six weeks old.
What he didn't know was that he wasn't the first person to show up needing help.
Or the second.
In fact, Fish and Chips arrived after another unexpected intake earlier that same day and another emergency the night before. That was on top of seven cats and kittens who already had *scheduled *admission appointments.
And if that wasn't enough, someone had recently abandoned FOUR young cats in carriers outside our door—cats who all needed urgent medical care.
The reality is that animal rescue isn't just about loving cats.
It's about capacity.
Space.
Funding.
Medical care.
Foster homes.
Volunteers.
Staff time.
Supplies.
Planning.
Because every time we say yes to one cat, we're making a commitment to provide everything that cat needs—not just today, but for however long it takes to get them healthy and into a loving home.
Normally, we can't accommodate same-day admissions or walk-in drop-offs. Not because we don't care, but because responsible rescue requires resources.
But as the day wound down, we looked at Fish and Chips, made a few phone calls, rearranged some plans, found space for the night, and said yes.
Because they were worth it. ❤️
But here's what we NEED you to understand:
Imagine if someone unexpectedly left a dozen cats at your doorstep.
You'd probably panic.
Now imagine providing food, veterinary care, litter, housing, cleaning, and daily care for all of them.
That's what we face every single day.
Our most basic average cost is about $200 per cat just to cover initial veterinary care and essential supplies during the first few days.
And that's before more extensive medical needs and foster support.
So today, we're asking for help.
❤️ Can you make a gift of $10, $25, or whatever feels right?
❤️ Can you become a monthly donor for just $5 a month? That's less than $100 a year!
❤️ Can you share this so others understand what rescue really looks like?
Fish and Chips got their second chance because people were willing to step up.
Will you help us be ready for the next ones?
Because kitten season isn't slowing down—and neither are the cats who need us. 🐾
