🚨 IMPORTANT ALERT FOR RABBIT OWNERS 🚨
Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus Type 2 (RHDV2) is currently affecting wild rabbits in Nevada. This highly contagious and often fatal disease can affect all rabbits, including those who live exclusively indoors.
For the safety of our patients, clients, and team, Lone Mountain Animal Hospital will not be seeing or accepting wild rabbits at this time. This temporary precaution helps reduce the risk of RHDV2 exposure within our hospital.
RHDV2 can spread through contaminated fur, urine, f***s, bedding, insects, shoes, clothing, equipment, and other objects.
Signs may include:
• Lethargy or weakness
• Loss of appetite
• Fever
• Difficulty breathing
• Bleeding from the mouth, nose, or ge***al area
• Sudden death
Vaccination is one of the most important ways to help protect domestic rabbits. Please contact Lone Mountain Animal Hospital to discuss RHDV2 vaccination and additional precautions.
If your pet rabbit develops symptoms, call us immediately before arriving so our team can prepare and help limit possible exposure.
If you find a sick, injured, or deceased wild rabbit, please do not touch or bring it to the hospital. Report it to the Nevada Department of Wildlife at 775-688-1500 or [email protected].
Please share this information with other rabbit owners in our community. Together, we can help protect Nevada’s rabbits. 🐰❤️
