We will NOT be holding our regular Saturday adoption event at Petco on Sahara this Saturday, October 17th!

Instead, Those Left Behind Foundation will be out at Veterans Appreciation at Craig Ranch Regional Park! 🇺🇸

We’re excited to spend the day supporting and celebrating the brave men and women who have served our country. ❤️

🐾 Come out, say hello, and show your support! We’d love to see some familiar faces and meet new friends while honoring our veterans.

🚨 NEEDS US AGAIN! 💔🐾 🚨

Just when we thought Bonnie was finally getting the break she deserved, we’re facing another heartbreaking setback.

Many of you have followed Bonnie’s journey since December, when a severe infection forced us to make the devastating decision to remove one of her eyes.

Thanks to the incredible support of our rescue community, Bonnie made it through surgery. She healed, gained weight, started sleeping peacefully through the night, and finally seemed to be enjoying life without constant pain.

For months, our sweet girl was doing so well. ❤️

Unfortunately, we don’t have good news to share today. 💔

Bonnie’s remaining eye is once again deteriorating, and we’re facing another difficult medical battle.

Our veterinary specialists are working to determine the best course of treatment to preserve her remaining eye and protect her quality of life.

Bonnie has already endured more than any dog should have to experience in such a short lifetime.

🐾 A $3,000 hip surgery.
🐾 Months of painful eye infections and treatments.
🐾 Emergency surgery in December to remove her first eye.
🐾 And now, another serious complication threatening her remaining eye.

The financial reality is overwhelming.

Bonnie’s latest veterinary visit, testing, and cultures have already added $473.56 to her medical expenses.

We have also received a surgical estimate from Eye Care for Animals ranging from $5,595.55 to $5,953.21, depending on the care required.

And this is on top of the thousands of dollars already spent trying to give Bonnie the healthy, happy life she deserves.

💔 We desperately need your help.

Bonnie didn’t ask for any of this. She didn’t ask to spend so much of her young life undergoing surgeries, fighting infections, and enduring painful recoveries.

All she wants is what every rescue dog deserves: to feel safe, to be loved, and to enjoy her life.

And despite everything, Bonnie continues to show us just how resilient she is.

We promised this sweet girl we wouldn’t give up on her, and we’re doing everything we can to keep that promise.

This Saturday, Those Left Behind Foundation is bringing the cuteness to Petco, and our adoptable pups are ready to work their magic!

We’ve got professional snugglers, enthusiastic walking buddies, expert treat testers, and a few lovable goofballs who are guaranteed to keep life interesting. 🐕💕

They all have different personalities, but they’re looking for the same thing: a family to call their own.

We’re back this Saturday, and we have some very special pups hoping this is finally their weekend. ❤️

Two of our babies have now been with Those Left Behind Foundation for an entire YEAR waiting for their forever families.

A whole year of watching other dogs get chosen.
A whole year of adoption events.
A whole year of waiting for someone to look at them and say…

“That’s my dog.” 🥹🐶

They’ve been loved and cared for every single day while they wait, but foster homes are only supposed to be a stop along the way. Forever is the destination.

🌈 Forever One of Ours: Remembering Pretzel

Yesterday, we received one of those messages that breaks your heart while reminding you exactly why we do what we do. 💔🐾

In April of 2013, a little girl named Pretzel was adopted from Those Left Behind Foundation at Pet-A-Palooza at Sunset Park.

Her family reached out to us yesterday to let us know that after 13½ beautiful years together, Pretzel crossed the Rainbow Bridge at 14 years old. 🌈

For those of us in rescue, adoption day is usually where our part of the story ends. We watch them leave in the arms of their new family, hope we chose well, and move on to the next dog who needs us.

But this is what we hope happens after they leave.

Thirteen and a half years of being someone’s little girl.
Thirteen and a half years of birthdays, ordinary days, adventures, snuggles and memories.
Thirteen and a half years of being safe, wanted and deeply loved.

Pretzel’s family told us she gave them many years of happiness and that she will forever be in their hearts. The fact that after all these years they thought to reach back out and share her passing with us means more than they probably realize.

We may have helped Pretzel find her family in 2013, but they gave her the life every rescue dog deserves.

And that is the whole point.

Every adoption photo we post is only the beginning of a story we don’t always get to see. Pretzel got her happily-ever-after—and she got to live it for more than thirteen years. ❤️

To Pretzel’s family: thank you for choosing her. Thank you for loving her for a lifetime. And thank you for letting us be part of her story once again.

Once a TLB dog, always a TLB dog.
