A service dog and a well-trained pet dog are not the same thing.
And understanding the difference could change everything for someone who genuinely needs one.

Here's the real breakdown:
PET DOG STANDARD:
โ†’ Sits, stays, comes when called (most of the time)
โ†’ Walks reasonably well on leash
โ†’ Behaves at home
โ†’ Loves their owner

SERVICE DOG STANDARD:
โ†’ Performs reliably under ANY level of distraction
โ†’ Passes public access hospitals, courtrooms, airplanes
โ†’ Performs specific disability-related tasks ON COMMAND or ON THEIR OWN
โ†’ Works for hours without breaking focus
โ†’ Responds to their handler as a true working partner
One is a companion. The other is a trained professional.

Both are valuable. But only one changes the life of someone with a disability in a way nothing else can.
This is the standard we train to in our Owner Training Academy.
Not close to it. Not almost. The real standard.
Because the people we work with deserve a dog that actually does the job.
