Hoppin’ Hollow’s HHDB08 x Land of Enhopment’s Fiver

This little doe is one we were considering keeping on as a meat breeder even after we decided to halt our meat mix project. She has such full loins and is just so beautiful, and we’re curious to see how her offspring look. She may be sticking around if she’s a good mom and produces well.

Hoppin’ Hollow’s Harlie x Land of Enhopment’s Fiver

Harlie is a Rex, and since we had decided to end our Rex mix project, Harlie was probably not going to get bred again. She is one of a few does with “pet” status, though, so she will be staying. This pretty girl is a proven doe and wonderful mother, but unfortunately she hasn’t recovered her condition as well as we would like after her most recent litter. We leave females with mom until they go to freezer camp, and Harlie has a history of letting her babies nurse until close to 12 weeks old. 🤦‍♀️ She was a little skinny going into summer, and weight gain was slow because of how hot our summer was. We have our fingers crossed for a small litter for this girl, and we will probably be giving some of her babies away to other does. Unfortunately, in a colony setting we can’t guarantee she won’t be stepping in to help with more than her share of the kits.

Rockin ER’s Flurry x Land of Enhopment’s Fiver

This little girl is a lot smaller than we would have liked for her first litter, so we have our fingers crossed for a very small litter. Flurry is the only young doe (of three) we felt babies developing in. We think it feels like a very small litter, so hopefully it won’t affect her growth and health too much. 🤞 Since things are the way they are, we are excited to get clues about Flurry’s genotype, and we hope there will be a keeper for the white/red line project from this litter.

Wow, what a relief to see low 90s in the forecast. Misters may get turned off after this trip if the forecast holds 🤞

Next up, Hoppin’ Hollow’s Jiffy x Land of Enhopment’s Fiver

We recently made the decision to end our Rex mix project to focus entirely on our New Zealand red & white project. Unfortunately, most of our does are housed together, and Fiver’s escapade included some Rex/rex mix does. Jiffy was one of them. She is our most skittish doe, and catching her is a chore. This will be her last litter, and she will be headed to “camp” (you know which) with her kits 😋

This pregnancy announcement is more frustrating than the last. Motherwolf’s Hot N Heavy (“Hottie”) was left in with Rockin ER’s Chip for a very intentional pairing. We didn’t see any falloffs, but we also didn’t see any falloffs between him and Starfire who has been confirmed pregnant by him. We wanted to pair Chip and Hottie to try and get a replacement buck or doe with the width and fullness of loins they share but also with improved topline. The two of them struggle so differently in the topline that we thought there was a chance that they could be a really successful (or horrible) pairing.

Now to the frustrating part. Hottie lives in the colony Land of Enhopment’s Fiver got loose in. Fiver got Hottie within two days of when she was bred to Chip. There will be no way for us to determine paternity with certainty, so this litter will only have a pedigree on their dam’s side. We waffled back and forth on which buck to put Hottie with, but in the end the important thing was knowing which buck she was bred to. This is the first time we will ever have a litter with uncertain paternity, and it doesn’t feel great.

We’re going down the list of bred does in the order that it appears in our app, so Motherwolf’s Princess Peach goes first! This is the only broken doe currently on our property, and she’s expecting a litter from Land of Enhopment’s Fiver. This was an intentional pairing that also got some extra time together when Fiver got a night “out on the town” with his girls. We’re hoping that Fiver can help us move that peak back while Peach brings in the broken patterns. Fiver is from a booted doe whose dam threw a mixture of nice broken patterns and booted patterns depending on who she was paired with, and we’re hoping Fiver got some decent pattern modifiers to pass on. 🤞

Land of Enhopment’s Fiver is the culprit of the overwhelming number of litters we are expecting in our big colony. He really takes after his sire, Land of Enhopment’s Clifford (our original buck) in the enthusiasm department 🤣 This guy is expected to be proven soon…many times over.

Anyway, he was looking pretty long and low in the shoulder for a while (like his sire), but he seems to be growing into himself. He is already an improvement on his sire, and we would really like to keep Clifford’s genetics in the line we’re building if possible.

Brink’s Starfire was confirmed (almost certainly) pregnant through palpation today. We are so excited to see what her and Rockin ER Rabbitry Chip produce together!!! Starfire came to us proven, but this litter will be Chip’s first.

We haven’t taken any posed photos of Starfire, so we stole the photo from her sale post. I hope Motherwolf Rabbitry 2.0 doesn’t mind.

Ok, good news first. We are out of the triple digit temperatures for a little bit. Bad news…we have not six but SEVEN pregnant does in the big colony. All six mature does in our big colony were confirmed pregnant by palpation today, and so was one young New Zealand doe. We will be working on building the brood cage system we’ve been designing as soon as I’m home from this upcoming trip. 😮‍💨 Individual pregnancy announcements to come, I guess.
