🚶 WALK. SNIFF. EXPLORE. ENJOY. 🐾
It’s National Walk Your Dog Week, and sometimes one of the simplest things we can do for our dogs is also one of the best: get outside and move together!
Regular walks can support a healthy weight, mobility, cardiovascular health and mental stimulation—and all those interesting smells give your dog plenty to think about along the way.
But a “good walk” doesn’t look the same for every dog.
🐶 A young, energetic dog may enjoy a brisk adventure.🐾 An older dog may prefer a shorter, slower stroll.👃 And sometimes stopping to sniff every few feet is part of the fun!
❤️ EBAH Tip: Match exercise to your dog's age, health, fitness level and Florida weather. The goal isn't to see how far you can go—it's to find activity that keeps your dog comfortably moving and enjoying life.
And don't forget one of the best benefits:
You're spending time together. ❤️
👇 Tell us: Is your dog a power walker, casual stroller...or professional stop-and-sniffer?

🔎 WHAT HAPPENS DURING A PET WELLNESS VISIT?
A wellness visit is about much more than vaccines. It’s an opportunity to look at your pet’s overall health, talk about what you’re seeing at home, and identify concerns that may not be obvious yet.
During a routine wellness visit, your veterinary team may evaluate:

Overall physical health — eyes, ears, mouth, skin and coat, heart and lungs, abdomen, joints, mobility and more

Weight & body condition — including nutrition, activity and changes since your pet’s last visit

Dental health — checking the teeth and gums for signs of dental disease

Vaccination needs — based on age, lifestyle, health history and individual risk

Parasite prevention — including protection from heartworms, fleas, ticks and intestinal parasites

🔎 Preventive screening — when appropriate for your pet’s age, life stage or health history

And just as importantly, a wellness visit gives you an opportunity to talk about the things you notice at home—appetite, drinking, bathroom habits, behavior, mobility or anything that simply seems different.

❤️ EBAH Tip: Wellness care isn’t one-size-fits-all. A puppy or kitten, healthy adult and senior pet may each need a different approach to preventive care.

Last month we talked about knowing your pet’s normal. A wellness visit brings that knowledge together with what we can learn through an examination and appropriate preventive screening.

You know your pet. We know veterinary medicine. Together, that’s a pretty good team. 🐶🐱❤️

🩺 A HEALTHY PET IS MORE THAN ONE THING. 🐾
October is Pet Wellness Month, and it’s a great time to think about your pet’s health as a whole.
We often think about veterinary care when a pet is sick or something has changed. But wellness is also about paying attention to all the things that help keep your pet feeling their best—from everyday habits at home to preventive veterinary care.
Think about the whole picture:
🩺 Preventive care — wellness exams, vaccinations and appropriate screening🦷 Dental health — healthy teeth and gums are part of overall health⚖️ Weight & nutrition — maintaining a healthy body condition matters🐾 Movement & activity — comfortable mobility, exercise and play🪱 Parasite protection — prevention is an important part of routine care❤️ Behavior & quality of life — appetite, energy, sleep, interaction and the little habits that make your pet your pet
Last month, we talked about knowing your pet’s normal. That awareness is an important part of wellness, too. When you know what’s typical for your pet, you’re more likely to notice when something begins to change.
🩺 EBAH Tip: Wellness care isn’t one-size-fits-all. A puppy or kitten, healthy adult, and senior pet may have very different needs. Your pet’s age, lifestyle, health history and individual risks all help determine what preventive care is appropriate for them.
So as we begin October, ask yourself:
When you look at your pet’s health as a whole, is there anything that deserves a little more attention?
Because a healthy pet really is more than one thing. ❤️🐶🐱

🍂🐾 SUMMER IS ENDING. WHAT HAS CHANGED?
September's Know Your Pet Month has been all about paying closer attention to the little things that make your pet unique.
As we head into a new season, this is a good time for a simple check-in:
Think back to the beginning of summer. Is anything different now?
Maybe your dog isn't jumping onto the couch quite as easily.
Maybe your cat is drinking a little more water.
Maybe you've noticed a change in appetite, weight, sleep, grooming or bathroom habits.
Or maybe your pet is doing wonderfully—and you've simply become more aware of what their healthy, happy “normal” looks like. ❤️
🐾 Take a moment to consider:
• Eating & drinking — about the same as a few months ago?• Weight & body condition — any noticeable gain or loss?• Movement — still getting up, walking, running and jumping comfortably?• Sleep & energy — any changes in activity or stamina?• Bathroom habits — anything different in frequency or routine?• Behavior — still acting like themselves?
🩺 Tip from East Bay Animal Hospital: Changes don't always happen overnight. When we see our pets every day, gradual differences can be surprisingly easy to miss. Looking back over several months can sometimes make those changes easier to recognize.
If something has changed, make a note of it. And if it persists or concerns you, let's talk about it.
Because knowing your pet isn't just about recognizing when something is wrong.
It's about understanding what helps them feel their best. 🐶🐱❤️
👇 Before we say goodbye to September: What's something you've learned—or noticed—about your pet lately?

🦠 WORLD RABIES DAY — PROTECT PETS. PROTECT PEOPLE. 🐾
September 28 is World Rabies Day, a reminder that one of the most serious diseases affecting animals and people is also one we have an important tool to help prevent: vaccination.
Rabies is a viral disease that affects mammals—including pets, wildlife and people. Once clinical signs develop, it is nearly always fatal, which makes prevention especially important.
💉 Keep vaccinations current. Florida requires dogs, cats and ferrets 4 months of age and older to be vaccinated against rabies unless a veterinarian determines vaccination would endanger the animal's health.
🐱 Indoor pets need protection, too. An open door, damaged screen or unexpected encounter with wildlife can create an exposure opportunity.
🦇 Avoid contact with wildlife. If your pet has contact with a bat or other potentially rabid animal, contact your veterinarian promptly.
❤️ EBAH Tip: Take a moment today to check your pet's rabies vaccination status. If you're unsure when they're due, we can help you review their records.
Rabies prevention protects more than our pets—it helps protect our families and our community, too.
Protect pets. Protect people. ❤️

🌪️🐾 DON’T WAIT FOR THE CONE!
We've talked about hurricane preparedness before this year—but there's a reason we're bringing it up again.
Hurricane season isn't over yet.
And after months of Florida summer, some of those supplies you prepared earlier in the season may not be quite as ready as you think.
Take 10 minutes this week and give your pet's emergency supplies a quick check:
🐾 Food & water: Is your supply still adequate—and is the food fresh?
💊 Medications: Do you have enough on hand if pharmacies or veterinary offices are temporarily closed?
🏷️ Identification: Is your pet wearing current ID? Is the phone number associated with their microchip still correct?
📄 Important records: Can you quickly access vaccination records, medication information and important veterinary information if you need to evacuate?
🧳 Carrier, crate & leash: Can you put your hands on them immediately—or would you be searching the house while a storm approaches?
🧻 Everyday necessities: Don't forget litter, waste bags, bowls, bedding and other things your pet routinely needs.
❤️ Comfort item: A familiar blanket or favorite toy can be especially helpful when pets are suddenly somewhere unfamiliar.
🩺 Tip from East Bay Animal Hospital: Don't wait until your area is in the forecast cone to discover something is missing. A quick check now means one less thing to worry about if the weather changes.
Living in Florida means hurricane preparation becomes part of our routine—but our pets are counting on us to include their needs in the plan, too. 🐶🐱
👇 QUICK CHECK: If you had to leave home with your pet in 30 minutes, are you ready?

🐾🌟 MEET OUR SEPTEMBER PET OF THE MONTH! 🌟🐾
One of our favorite things about veterinary medicine is getting to know the wonderful pets—and people—who walk through our doors every day. ❤️

This month, we're celebrating T-MAN our September Pet of the Month!

🐾 A little about T-MAN:

❤️ Age: 14🐾 Breed: MIX
🥰 Favorite thing: FAVORITE TREAT - TEMPTATIONS
😂 Fun fact: SLEEPING BY THE WINDOW WitH HIS PAW OVER HIS EYES
💙 What makes HIM special: HE IS A LOVE-BUG

We love watching our patients grow, getting to know
their personalities and quirks, and being part of their lives through all the different stages along the way.

Because to us, veterinary medicine has always been about more than appointments.

Amazing pets. Wonderful people. A stronger community. 🐾❤️

🎉 Congratulations, T-MAN! We're so happy you're part of the East Bay Animal Hospital family!

👇 Help us celebrate our September Pet of the Month by leaving T-MAN a little love in the comments!

🏠🐾 KEEP THEM ACTIVE: A LITTLE ENRICHMENT GOES A LONG WAY!
Keeping your pet active isn't just about physical exercise. Dogs and cats also benefit from opportunities to think, explore, sniff, chase, search and play.
And enrichment doesn't need to be complicated! A few simple changes to the daily routine can make an ordinary day much more interesting.
🐶 FOR DOGS:• 👃 Turn a regular walk into a “sniffari” and let your dog stop and investigate• 🦴 Hide treats or kibble around the house for a mini scavenger hunt• 🧩 Try a puzzle feeder or food-dispensing toy• 🎾 Rotate favorite toys instead of leaving every toy out all the time• 🐕 Practice a few familiar cues—or teach a new trick—for a short training session
🐱 FOR CATS:• 🪶 Use wand toys to encourage stalking, chasing and pouncing• 📦 Never underestimate the entertainment value of a cardboard box!• 🧩 Hide small portions of food or treats for your cat to “hunt”• 🪟 Create a safe window perch for bird and squirrel watching• 🐭 Rotate toys to make old favorites feel new again
💡 Tip from East Bay Animal Hospital: Match activities to your individual pet's age, health, mobility and personality. A young, energetic dog may love a long game of fetch, while a senior pet may be happier with a gentle food puzzle or leisurely sniff around the yard.
The goal isn't to exhaust them—it's to give their body AND brain something enjoyable to do. ❤️
And remember: playtime is also quality time. Those few minutes of interaction are good for your pet and a wonderful way to strengthen the bond you share.
👇 YOUR TURN: What's your pet's absolute FAVORITE way to play? Bonus points for the weird ones! 😂 Tell us in the comments.

“Cats can be very good at hiding changes.”

🐱 FOCUS ON CATS: SMALL CHANGES MATTER
Cats can be very good at hiding changes. Sometimes the first clue that something isn’t quite right isn’t dramatic—it’s simply that your cat is doing something a little differently than usual.
During Know Your Pet Month, take a few minutes to think about what’s “normal” for your cat. 🐾
Call with any questions 727-536-2743
🔎 Some changes worth paying attention to include:
🥣 Eating or drinking differently
🚽 Changes in litter box habits
😴 Sleeping or hiding more
🐾 Changes in movement
🧼 Changes in grooming
😾 Behavior changes
⚖️ Changes in body condition
One isolated change doesn't necessarily mean your cat is sick. But a new change that persists, several changes happening together, or something that simply doesn't seem normal for your cat is worth paying attention to.

🩺 Tip from East Bay Animal Hospital: You know your cat's everyday habits better than anyone. If something seems different, make a note of what changed and when you first noticed it. Those little details can be very helpful when you talk with your veterinarian.

📍 Proudly caring for cats—and the people who love them—in our Largo community.

🐾 START WITH “NORMAL” 🐾
Do you know what’s normal for your pet?

September is Know Your Pet Month, and being your pet’s best health advocate starts with one simple concept: knowing their normal. When you’re familiar with your pet’s everyday habits and routines, it can be easier to notice when

🩺 Get to know their normal:

💤 Sleep & Energy: When do they usually nap, play, and have the most energy?

🥣 Appetite & Water: What are their normal eating and drinking habits?

🐕 Movement: How do they normally get up, walk, climb stairs, or jump onto their favorite spot?

🐾 Everyday Habits: Pay attention to their usual bathroom routines, behavior, and personality.

Small changes can be easy to overlook. Knowing what’s typical for your pet gives you useful information to share with your veterinary team when something seems different.

💡 Tip from East Bay Animal Hospital: Keep a quick note in your phone with your pet’s normal routines and habits. It can be helpful to have that information handy at veterinary visits.

📍 Proudly serving our Largo community with love and care.
