Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Care Center, established in 1982, was the first multi-specialty veterinary hospital on the west coast of Florida. Today, Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Care Center has grown to include advanced and specialized veterinary services in Dermatology, Emergency & Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Oncology, Ophthalmology, and Surgery. With a dedicated veterinary healthcare staff of 125+, Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Care Center provides 24-hour compassionate care seven days a week to over 13,000 patients annually. The specialists see patients by referral from primary care veterinarians. Our specialists work closely with referring veterinarians to provide the most comprehensive care possible. Continuing Education in Action! 🐾👁️

We were excited to have ophthalmologist Dr. Turicea and his technician Tina visit Partridge Animal Hospital to share valuable educational information on UV-C (ultraviolet-C light) as an adjunctive treatment for corneal ulcers, with a special focus on complicated infected ulcers.

In addition to the presentation, Tina provided hands-on guidance by demonstrating proper patient restraint techniques and sharing tips to help ensure accurate ophthalmic test results. Their expertise and practical insights made for an engaging and informative session for the veterinary team.

🐾💗 Sugar, Sugar! A Sweet Little Fighter! 💗🐾

At just over 2 months old, Sugar, an adorable Pit Bull mix puppy, found himself in need of some extra TLC when he was hospitalized for pneumonia. 🫁🐶

Pneumonia is an infection or inflammation of the lungs that can make breathing difficult and leave our furry friends feeling pretty under the weather. Signs can include coughing, rapid or labored breathing, lethargy, decreased appetite, and fever. Puppies can be especially vulnerable, so recognizing the signs early and seeking veterinary care is important!

Sugar spent 24 hours in the hospital receiving lots of care and support! 💕

💧 IV fluids to help keep him hydrated

💊 Antibiotics to treat suspected bacterial infection

🌬️ Nebulization to help support his respiratory health and loosen airway secretions

After 24 hours of dedicated care and lots of love from our team, this sweet boy was feeling well enough to head home! 🏡🎉

We’re so happy Sugar is back home, where he can focus on resting, recovering, and getting back to all the important things in puppy life — playing, cuddling, and being cute! 🐾💕

A little reminder from your veterinary team: If your pet develops a persistent cough, unusual tiredness, loss of appetite, or changes in their breathing, don’t ignore it. Difficulty breathing, blue or pale gums, or significant respiratory distress are emergencies that require immediate veterinary attention.

🚨 When dinner fights back… 🐱🥫

This sweet girl came into the hospital with an empty cat food can stuck on her head! 😳

We’re not exactly sure how she managed to pull off this impressive feat, but our team was able to safely remove the can and give her a thorough exam. Thankfully, she was otherwise doing great and was able to head home with her family the same day. ❤️

No injuries, no complications — just one very determined kitty who apparently wanted to see the inside of the can firsthand. 😂

The good news: the can is off, she’s doing great, and her next meal should hopefully be enjoyed can-free! 🐾

🐷❤️ From 22 pounds to thriving—this is Piglet’s story.

Last November, Piglet was brought to our hospital by a Good Samaritan after being found as a stray. She was in critical condition—severely underweight at just 22 pounds, anemic, and so hypothermic that her temperature was too low to register.

Our Emergency team immediately went to work, providing heat support, intravenous fluids, medications, a strict feeding schedule, and around-the-clock care to stabilize her. Thanks to the dedication of our Emergency, Internal Medicine, Dermatology, and Surgery teams, Piglet got the second chance she deserved.

But the best part? One of our nurses fell completely in love with her and made it official by welcoming Piglet into her family.

Today, Piglet weighs a healthy 45 pounds, is feeling better than ever, and spends her days living her best life with her canine best friend, Tuna. 🐶

Piglet’s story is a reminder that even the sickest patients can make incredible recoveries with timely veterinary care, teamwork, and a whole lot of love.

Thank you to the Good Samaritan who stopped to help, and to everyone who played a role in giving Piglet the happy ending she deserves. 💙
