Muddy Paws K9 Training; LLC Specializing in Police and Security K9 Training and Consulting Any information or opinions offered on this page are not those of the agencies themselves.

We are a full-service police and security K9 training and consulting company with over 20 years experience. We provide every aspect of training or consultation on K9 selection, training, and administrative needs such as record keeping and certification. Our K9 training services can provide training for all aspects of patrol and/or detector training; such as tracking, apprehension, obedience, tactical K9 uses, scenario based training, and detector dog training for multiple disciplines. Our owner and lead trainer, Tony LoRusso, has worked with numerous agencies in K9 selection, initial training, and maintenance training for both patrol and detector K9s. Tony also has real world experience, working three Patrol K9s that were dual certified in drug detection. With over 300 patrol apprehensions and 100+ drug detection finds, Tony has the real world experience to compliment his experience as an FDLE and USPCA certified K9 Trainer with over 30,000 training hours as a lead K9 trainer. Tony was also the Head K9 Trainer for the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office 14 dog K9 Unit where he was responsible for dog selection, running patrol and detector schools, maintenance training, course development, and record keeping. Tony has also competed in the United States Police Canine Association Regional and National Trials with all three of his K9s, placing multiple times in patrol and detector disciplines. With this wealth of experience we are confident our company can provide you with the guidance and training you need to build and maintain the highest quality of K9 teams.
*We work with and for several law enforcement and security agencies in the realm of K9 training.

Worked with some really great K9 Teams and future instructors today that were all about preparing for, "Now what?!" As well as learning how to prepare their brothers and sisters for the day we hope never comes. Big thank you to F1RST and Safety Town for allowing us to have a great day of scenarios.

Firing off Scenario Day on Day 8 of our FDLE K9 Instructor Course. Realistic pictures and decision making!!

Tampa PD K9 Paz knows his HIT command that's for sure. No matter what picture I showed him, he's staying engaged. For me, muzzle is essential for operational readiness. From obedience and working around a team training to realistic, non-equipment, decoy pictures, if you're not training muzzle, you should be.

Small glimpse of Day 6 at our K9 Instructor Course. We covered basic bite work and certification benchmarks, but presenting realistic pictures for operational success is always the goal!

Gunfire acclimation and Team Integration today in our K9 Instructor School! Whether you're a SWAT dog K9 team or Patrol K9, having the ability to work with and around backup team members is an integral skill. And gunfire neutrality goes without saying for that time we HOPE never comes but must be READY for. Huge shout out to our hosts, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office and F1RST, who literally wrote the book on a lot of this stuff. Being able to work in conjunction with subject master experts is just as import as being a knowledgeable trainer, in delivering top notch K9 instruction.

Day 2 of our K9 Instructor Course, K9 Selection and Obedience. With some special guests, regular old house pups, to give us some untrained, raw talent to judge and shape. Along with the handlers already sharp working partners.

THE STAGE IS SET FOR OUR 2026 K9 INSTRUCTOR COURSE! See you Monday!!!
