Pumpkin spice, apples, and cinnamon- oh my!
With fall and Halloween in the air, so are these aromas/ flavors. Some of us may love them, but common ingredients associated with fall can be "scary".
Always keep these "spooky" toxic foods away from them:
👻Chocolate/ cocoa- Contains theobromine. The darker the chocolate, the more dangerous
👻Grapes/Raisins- common in fall baked pastries, snack boxes, or charcuteries. Can lead to kidney failure
👻Pumpkin Spice (nutmeg, cloves, allspice)- contains Myristicin or eugenols and found in a lot of fall pastries/ lattes especially pumpkin spiced flavors. Eugenols can lead to liver toxicity especially in cats
👻Onions, garlic, chives (alliums)- staples in warm comfort foods like soups/ broth and roasts. Can damage red blood cells
👻Nuts- Acorns and black walnuts contain tannin or juglone which are toxic. Other nuts can be dangerous when they're moldy or can cause choking, blockage, and possible pancreatitis due to high fat content
Instead, use 💯 pumpkin puree with a bit of pet safe cinnamon to replace pumpkin spice or order one of our pumpkin pies/ empawnadas.
Or if you want to make your own, check out one of our baking mixes and bone broth seasoning!😍
