Nuisance groundhog tearing up the garden and driving Redman crazy. No groundhogs were harmedā€¦ yet. šŸ˜…

But this is exactly the kind of thing people need to understand before deciding they want a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

These dogs are terriers. Prey drive, persistence, and the instinct to chase and catch small animals are part of the package. I am not interested in breeding those traits out just to make the breed more appealing to people who really want a different kind of dog.

I love the Staffordshire Bull Terrier as a whole...not just the parts that are convenient in a household.

Training and management matter, but genetics matter too. If you are going to be horrified, angry, or disappointed when your dog displays natural terrier behavior, then this is probably not the breed for you.

Do not choose a dog because you like the look, the reputation, or the idea of owning one. Choose the dog whose actual traits fit your lifestyle and your expectations.

If people did that there would be a ton less of frustration in dog owners all over the world
