BCVH, is ran and owned by Shawn Tussey, DVM and his wife, Melissa. Dr. Tussey is a graduate from Auburn University and has been practicing medicine since 2005. The BCVH is
predominately a small animal hospital but service all species. We are relocated in
our state of the art facility and looking forward to taking care of your pet!! The BCVH has adopted the idea of showing love and compassion to

all of God's
creatures (including the owners lol) while living and expressing as best we can
the ideas and doctrine of the Lord Jesus Christ!! We put forth great efforts to live
open honest lives not only in business but personally and we strive to show the
love, compassion and honesty found in the Word of God!!

The Knott County Health Department has confirmed a positive case of rabies in a bat.

While rabies cases are uncommon, this is an important reminder that the virus is present in our area. Bats are one of the most common wildlife species that can carry rabies, and even a small bite or scratch can transmit the disease.

🐾 The best protection for your pets is keeping their rabies vaccinations current. Rabies is nearly always fatal once symptoms develop, but it is 100% preventable through vaccination.

📞 If your pet has any contact with a bat or other wild animal, contact your veterinarian immediately. If a bat is found inside your home, do not release it until local health officials can advise you, especially if people or pets may have been exposed.

Protecting your pet doesn’t just protect them it also helps protect your family and our community.

If your pet is due for a rabies vaccine or you’re unsure of their vaccination status, give us a call. We’re happy to help ensure your furry family members stay protected. ❤️🐾

We may have missed World Snake Day, but we couldn’t let it pass without celebrating one of our favorite clinic residents! 🐍💚

Meet Olivia, our beautiful Red-Tailed Boa! She’s estimated to be around 15 years old and weighs an impressive 27 pounds. She’s been a beloved part of our clinic for years.

Fun fact: Olivia was named after Olivia the Pig, the children’s TV show! 🐷

Snakes are incredible animals, but they also deserve our respect. While Olivia is a nonvenomous Red-Tailed Boa that enjoys educating visitors, not every snake is harmless. It’s always best to admire wild snakes from a safe distance, never attempt to handle one you can’t positively identify, and remember that snakes play an important role in keeping our ecosystems healthy.

If you’re visiting the clinic, be sure to stop by and say hello to Olivia! We’d love to know have you ever met a Red-Tailed Boa before? 🐍
