With the heat of the summer we are starting to see some lameness cases showing up. I had to do a farm stop yesterday for a lame cow and two recheck cows.
I believe every farm should have some sort of a manual chute to be able to tackle lame animals if they pop up but also for other purposes. They sure are handy! This swiss cow had a white line lesion on her left rear on the lateral ( outer claw ) and a sole ulcer on the right rear lateral claw.
I blocked both of the healthy claws on the rears to relieve pressure from the affected claws. It kind of works the same way when the doctor gives you crutches to take the weight off of an ankle or leg.
She walked out much better and should make a full recovery!
