Many veterinarians associate CT with referral hospitals and rare neurological cases.
In reality, some of the most common applications include:
• Dentistry • Orthopedics • Chronic respiratory disease • Ear disease • Oncology staging • Senior wellness screening

The highest-utilization CT programs are often built around the patients practices see every day.

A 16-year-old American Eskimo presented for a dental procedure and planned extractions.
As part of pre-anesthetic screening, CT was performed.
The study identified: • A hepatic mass • Splenic nodules • Adrenal enlargement • Chronic renal changes • Gastrointestinal abnormalities
What appeared to be a routine dental became a broader medical evaluation.
Senior patients often have more to tell us than their presenting complaint suggests.

A 9-year-old mixed breed dog presented with severe neck and back pain.
Physical examination was difficult due to discomfort. Survey radiographs did not explain the severity of the clinical signs.
CT revealed multiple vertebral lesions, enlarged lymph nodes, and pulmonary nodules consistent with disseminated disease.
What began as a pain case became an oncology workup.
Sometimes advanced imaging doesn’t just provide answers.
It changes the entire direction of the case.

A 9-month-old Great Dane presented with front limb lameness.
Radiographs identified bilateral shoulder OCD lesions. CT provided a three-dimensional assessment of lesion size, depth, and joint involvement, helping clinicians better understand disease severity before treatment.

Not every CT study changes the diagnosis.

Sometimes the value comes from understanding the diagnosis more completely.

An 8-year-old Corgi presented with mild facial swelling and a fractured maxillary fourth premolar.
Oral examination showed only mild tartar and gingivitis. Dental radiographs did not reveal significant pathology.
CT identified a periodontal pocket affecting the caudal root. Extraction revealed a necrotic pulp chamber and a developing apical abscess.
Without advanced imaging, this tooth likely would have been monitored rather than treated.
Different imaging modalities answer different clinical questions.

CT is often described as an imaging tool.
In practice, it’s a decision-making tool.
The value of advanced imaging isn’t simply seeing more anatomy. It’s gaining information that changes diagnosis, treatment, or patient management.
Every case in this series started with a patient already in the clinic. CT helped answer questions that remained after the initial workup.

High-definition volumetric imaging is about seeing with clarity.

When anatomy is revealed in this level of detail, clinicians are better equipped to navigate complexity, plan with confidence, and make informed clinical decisions.

Sometimes, it’s worth pausing and appreciating the beauty.
