For the first time in almost 34 years owning Basenjis, I have had a Basenjidognado. Pax has been trying to get these papers all week. I left them where they were in an effort to train him to “leave it”’ (on my space) as I did all my others. Unfortunately, I let my guard down to enter a dog show. As Basenji style dictates, he kept it buried in the back of his ever loving brain, just waiting for the first opportunity to strike. I started to hear some strange sounds (thought they were all chewing their bones), so I walked into the room. Pax and Sparkle were in the thick of it with Bean and Sprocket on the parameter waiting to feign innocence.

In all transparency, I have not include the two pairs of glasses in this data/declaration that my first Basenji managed to chew before I was trained.

Pax has a rock solid stack, but every now and then he fights the lead going around the ring He still needs work on that (me too🤣)but he often does allow moments where he clearly moves with balance and long, smooth, effortless gait, along with a breeder’s dream down and back. Love this boy and can’t wait until the light bulb stops flickering and completely illuminates.

Yesterday (his 4th show) was no different. After delays and a long ring time wait (hour+ had to hang out because the judge was catching up) he had his moments.

Thanks to the judges that can overlook his puppy antics and still see the value in him.
