Maintain!! As the competition season winds down and long rides on these last beautiful fall days are in full swing… consider offering spinal manipulation therapy to your horse. Had a wonderful time working with the horses NEER North last weekend ( as always) meeting new faces as well as spending time with the chestnut gelding who started it all
Jazz is a 22 yr old Morgan mare retired from a successful driving career. She arrived recently along with her son, Dax, and is currently under evaluation while receiving some much needed care and rehabilitation. She was super sweet and quiet to work with; I think she enjoyed her spinal manipulation session as much as I enjoyed working with her 💞. R***r, a handsome chestnut thoroughbred gelding, was the first horse I worked with when I started volunteering at NEER 2 yrs ago. Thanks to the amazing care from Laura Ciarletta and the dedicated team of volunteers at the center, he has come SUCH a long way. Grateful to be part of the path to recovery for these horses!

Horses recovering from lameness caused by a soft tissue injury, osteoarthritis, or foot pain can often suffer from restrictions across joint surfaces throughout their bodies as they compensate movement during recovery. Spinal manipulation for horses, otherwise known as veterinary chiropractic therapy, is Intended to be a complement to traditional veterinary medical therapy. It is used to maintain, refine and reestablish a horse’s balance, their mobility and overall comfort.
- We start by assessing your horse’s movement. -Systematic palpation identifies restrictions surrounding one or more joints
- Manipulation is targeted at specific areas of the horse identified during the exam.

So great to be back at New England Equine Rescue last week, getting to know two of their newest members, Cruz, a 15 yr old off the track thoroughbred gelding and Boo, a 13 yr OTB gelding. Both horses were the sweetest gentleman for their chiropractic therapy ❤️ They are currently under review as they settle in and will hopefully be ready to find their new homes very soon. Dr. Laura spent the past few days taking her dentistry skills to the next level at a 2 day, hands-on course offered to equine veterinarians through the AAEP in Ocala FL. The World Equestrian Center along with Peterson and Smith Equine Hospital were our hosts for this practical and informative event.
We covered many topics such as:
- Equilibration ( how to float horses in the best and safest ways)
- Advanced level diagnostics
- Managing Periodontal and sinus disease
- Diseases of the TMJ
In our great veterinary profession, you never stop learning!
As spring (finally) gets underway, Dr. Laura is eager to put her learned skills into practice, offering your horses focused care dedicated to keeping them healthier and more comfortable!
