Adoption pending!!! Fingers crossed for this sweet girl!
Quick Placement NEEDED: Can you foster or adopt?
Aurora is a 2-year-old pit bull who is a fantastic dog. She may be mixed with a Rottweiler, but without DNA testing it is hard to tell. Aurora is wonderful with people, great on a leash, and can learn to be around another dog with a slow introduction. She truly has to be the one to decide her friends. She is very well trained, has an electronic collar for off-leash playtime, and understands it well. Aurora is very active, loves to go for walks, and knows all her commands. Unfortunately, she cannot live with cats or other dogs. Her owner's life became complicated, and he was not able to keep her, which has been extremely difficult for him. Aurora is not doing well in the shelter environment, so if you can adopt or foster her, that would be very helpful for her mental state. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and negative for HW and Lyme. www.riversideanimalrescue.org for an application!

When a dog goes missing, many people expect them to act the way they do at home friendly, responsive, and eager to come when called. But that’s often not what happens.

This is what we call survival mode.

When a dog enters survival mode, their brain shifts from “family pet” to “self-preservation.” Even the most loving, well trained dog can behave like a completely different animal.

What survival mode looks like:
They won’t come when called even to their owner
They may avoid people entirely including familiar voices or their favorite squeaky toys, whistles etc.
They keep moving to stay “safe”
They become quiet, hidden, and harder to spot
They are most active at night (dusk to dawn)
They rely on instinct, not training
Why this matters:

When sightings are posted all over social media especially in multiple groups or private town pages it can unintentionally:

Push the dog further away from a safe area
Cause people to go searching and chasing
Create confusion and missed critical sightings
Prevent recovery teams from tracking patterns accurately
The most important thing to understand:

This is not the dog “choosing” to ignore you.
This is fear and instinct taking over.

What actually helps:
Keep sightings reported directly to the recovery team
Avoid chasing, calling, or searching on foot
Allow the dog to settle in one area
Use feeding stations and cameras to safely track them and then trap them in a proper dog trap.

Survival mode is temporary but how we respond during this time can make all the difference between a quick recovery and a dog staying lost.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT

In January 2025 with the help of Julia at WREN (www.wrenworks.org), I applied and was accepted into the Animal Behavior Institute school for Service and Therapy Dog Training (www.animaledu.com). Thank you Julia, the teachers, staff and my fellow classmates at Animal Behavior Institute for your help and guidance. Also thank you to my family, friends and especially my clients for being patient while I attended school and did my homework.

Davidson is such a sweet boy once he warms up to you. He is very loyal to the people he bonds with ,and as mentioned and like most mastiff’s, he can be protective once you become his person. He does know all his basic obedience plus more to help guide him with his insecurities. Also as mentioned he does better with women but will warm up to the right man that is patient with him. He will be happier in a quiet home with not a lot of hustle and bustle of people coming and going. He definitely is a cuddlier too.

Davidson has been waiting for 8 weeks now... he requires a patient person that will gain his trust. Once he accepts you, youre his person. He is a 4 yr old mastiff, sweet boy, loves his walks, loves toys and most other animals. He has a big bark in front of that sweet puppy dog personality. He prefers woman over men but does adjust to men with time and trust. If you would like to meet Davidson, please fill out the online application www.riversideanimalrescue.org or call 802-892-5300
