✨ TREATMENT SPOTLIGHT ✨

🐴 Spinal Manipulation (Similar to Chiropractic)
This therapy focuses on restoring proper motion and mobility within the joints of the body. Restrictions can contribute to stiffness, discomfort, reduced range of motion, and compensation patterns. By improving joint mobility, spinal manipulation can help horses move more comfortably and efficiently while supporting overall wellness and performance. ✨

🪡 Acupuncture Therapy
Acupuncture involves the placement of very fine needles at specific points throughout the body to help stimulate the nervous system, encourage circulation, reduce muscle tension, and promote relaxation. It can be used to support comfort, recovery, mobility, and overall balance within the body 💫

These therapies work beautifully together and can benefit horses of all ages, disciplines, and activity levels — from retirees and trail horses to lesson horses and competitors ❤️

Healthy movement. Better comfort. Happier horses. 🐎✨

💊✨ **Medicine Monday: Zygolide (Pergolide) for Equine Cushing’s (PPID)** ✨💊

Let’s kick off the week with a closer look at **Zygolide (pergolide)** — a key medication in managing **Equine Cushing’s Disease (PPID)** and helping horses feel their best!

🐴🌟 **What is Zygolide?**
Zygolide is a form of **pergolide**, the gold-standard treatment for horses diagnosed with PPID. It works by replacing dopamine in the brain — something PPID horses lack — helping to restore normal hormonal balance.

⚙️ **How does it work?**
In horses with PPID, the pituitary gland becomes overactive and produces excess hormones (like ACTH). Zygolide helps regulate this by:

* Mimicking dopamine
* Suppressing abnormal hormone production
* Bringing the endocrine system back into better balance

Consistency is key — daily dosing is critical for effective control.

💡 **Why it matters for your horse:**
✔️ Helps reduce abnormal hair coat (long, curly hair)
✔️ Supports energy levels and overall attitude
✔️ Improves immune function and healing
✔️ Supports long-term quality of life

🚨 **Quick Tips for Success:**
✔️ Give at the same time every day
✔️ Don’t skip doses — consistency = control
✔️ Monitor for appetite changes when starting (some horses may go off feed briefly)
✔️ Work with your veterinarian for routine bloodwork (ACTH monitoring)

🤝 Managing PPID is a team effort between you and your veterinary team — and understanding medications like Zygolide is a huge step toward keeping your horse happy and healthy.

⚡️ Poor performance doesn’t always mean a training issue… sometimes it’s PAIN. 🐴
Horses with SI (sacroiliac) pain may show:▫️ Bucking or tail swishing▫️ Trouble picking up leads▫️ Resistance under saddle▫️ Hind-end soreness▫️ Behavioral changes/performance decline
🎥 In this video, our doctors are performing ultrasound-guided SI injections to help reduce inflammation and improve comfort and performance.
✨ Accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment can make a huge difference for these horses!

🐴 Show season is here! A friendly reminder to plan ahead if you’ll be traveling with your horse to shows, events, or clinics this spring and summer.
Many venues require current Coggins tests and Health Certificates for entry and interstate travel. Health Certificates must be completed within a specific timeframe before travel, so please don’t wait until the last minute to schedule paperwork appointments.
Our schedule fills quickly during show season, and advance planning helps ensure we can get everything completed in time for your trip.
Please call the office with any questions or to schedule your appointment. Safe travels and good luck at your upcoming events! 🐎

Fun Case Friday 🐴✨: When a “small cut” isn’t so small…
⚠️ Graphic content: wound images below
This gelding came in with what looked like a minor cut—but beneath the surface was a deep, necrotic, pocketing wound.
After sedation and debridement, we started antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, bandaging, and incorporated Phovia to support healing. Over the next couple of weeks, with continued care and a partial closure to reduce dead space, the wound improved dramatically.
✨ Outcome:
Just 14 days after suturing, the wound healed beautifully—flat, clean, and dry!
💡 Takeaway:
Even small wounds can become serious. Early intervention + advanced therapies like Phovia can make a huge difference in healing and outcome.

🎉🐴 Fun Case Friday: From Flap to Fabulous! (Part 2) 👁️✨
If you saw Part 1, you know this mare had a significant eyelid injury. Here’s how the journey unfolded…
The Road to Recovery 🔄
Over several weeks, she required:
✂️ Multiple surgical repairs
🧵 Sutures
🩹 Debridement of necrotic & thickened tissue
🧪 Fluorescein staining to monitor for ulcers
💊 Systemic antibiotics & anti-inflammatories
👁️ Topical antibiotic ointment multiple times daily
Complications included:
• Multiple corneal ulcers
• Corneal edema
• Active neovascularization
Because corneal ulcers and steroids do NOT mix, medication timing was critical. We partnered with the ophthalmology team at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University to ensure the best possible outcome.
The Turning Point 🌅
With advanced ophthalmology care and diligent home treatment:
✔️ Ulcers resolved
✔️ Sutures healed
✔️ Scar tissue remodeled
✔️ Cornea stabilized
✔️ Vision intact
And today…
🎉 Her eye is completely normal and doing beautifully! 🎉
Client Education Takeaways 📚
👁️ Eyelid lacerations are emergencies.
🕒 Early repair = better outcomes.
🧴 Follow medication instructions exactly.
🩺 Specialty referrals save eyes.
Huge kudos to this dedicated owner — eye cases require serious commitment! 👏
