🐴 VETERINARY STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK: Meet Madelyn! 🩺

Our celebration continues with another new face at All Horses Great and Small! Madelyn will be splitting her time between the office and the road, so you’ll have the chance to get to know her both behind the scenes and at the barn! 💙

Madelyn has loved horses her whole life. She grew up riding at North Gate Farm, where she enjoyed competing on the IEA team and riding a variety of horses. Catch riding has always been a favorite—she loves getting to know each horse’s unique habits and personality! 🐎

Here are a few fun facts about her:

❤️ What inspired her to work with horses?
“I couldn’t see myself doing something without horses. I have always wanted to help animals and have an impact in some way. With horses being my favorite of all creatures, I couldn’t resist the opportunity!”

🎶 Her barn arrival theme song: “The Cure” by Lady Gaga!

✨ If she were a horse, her registered show name would be: “Going Out With A Bang,” with the barn name Nova—like a supernova!

🚙 Her favorite vet truck snack: Goldfish! 🐟

🐴 VET TECH APPRECIATION WEEK: Meet Jenn! 🩺
Our celebration continues with Jenn, our Office Manager and Veterinary Technician! Whether she’s helping care for your horses on the road or keeping things running behind the scenes, Jenn is an essential part of All Horses Great and Small. From scheduling and billing to medication orders and client questions, she always has plenty on her plate! ❤️
Here’s a little more about her!
🐎 Dressage is her passion! Jenn has developed three horses to the FEI levels and is just one Grand Prix score away from earning her USDF Gold Medal! She’s also a USDF L Graduate, and you may spot her judging local schooling dressage and eventing dressage shows.
🩺 Her favorite part of being a vet tech? Equine sports medicine! She loves assisting with lameness exams, prepping joints for injections, and learning about the biomechanics that help horses move and perform their best.
🎶 Her barn arrival song? “Shots” by Lil Jon! Because giving shots is part of the job—and some days call for a different kind after work! 😂💉
❤️ Outside of work, you’ll find Jenn riding her horse, Bebe, spending time with her fiancé, or cheering on the New England Patriots! 🏈

🐴💙 Meet Charlotte, our newest employee!

We’re kicking off our Veterinary Staff Appreciation Week spotlights by introducing one of the newest faces at All Horses Great and Small!

Originally from Wyoming, Charlotte recently graduated from Santa Clara University in California with a degree in biology. She now lives in Boston with her best friend and former college roommate, powers through her commute with audiobooks, and plans to apply to veterinary school next year to pursue her dream of becoming an equine vet! 🩺🐎

Here’s a little more about Charlotte, in her own words:

“The amount of snacks I eat in a day! Every time I get in the truck, I’m eating a snack. Cheese sticks, meat sticks, granola bars, clementines, chips, apples, pretzels, straight chocolate…really anything I can get my hands on!”

🐴💙 It’s Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week! 💙🐴
Behind every farm call is a team helping hold horses, prepare equipment, comfort patients, and keep the day running smoothly. Our technicians and assistants bring skill, compassion, patience, and plenty of humor to everything they do—and we’re so grateful for them!

🐴 CASE FRIDAY: A Frog Mystery! 🐸🔎
This horse came to us after his farrier noticed a concerning growth on the left front frog. He was completely comfortable and sound, with normal digital pulses—but the lesion had a classic canker-like appearance.

Canker can sometimes require extensive surgical debridement and freezing, so we discussed the options with his owner. Since he was comfortable and the lesion was localized, we decided to try a less invasive approach first: metronidazole paste, careful debridement, and keeping the foot clean and wrapped.

And it worked! 🎉

At the next recheck, the lesion had dried up and was covered with tissue that looked much more like normal frog. There was no bleeding, odor, or sensitivity.

Over the next few visits, we carefully pared away the abnormal surface tissue. We found one tiny suspicious spot in the middle, which we froze and continued treating with the metronidazole paste.

Then came the best recheck…

✨ The frog looked completely normal! ✨

Smooth, healthy-looking frog tissue. No abnormal growth. No defects. No sensitivity. And most importantly, the horse remained comfortable and sound throughout the entire process. 🐎❤️

We’ll continue to monitor the area and keep it clean and dry, but for now, this frog mystery has a very happy ending! 🐸🎉

Sometimes the best treatment plan is the one that lets us start conservatively, monitor closely, and adjust as the horse responds.
