One thing I don’t think people always realize is that there’s a real person behind breeder pages.

Most of us aren’t giant businesses with employees answering messages all day long. It’s usually just us… responding while scrubbing floors, folding laundry, sanitizing bowls, ordering supplies, setting alarms through the night for moms and babies, scheduling vet appointments, and trying to remember where we even sat our coffee down for the third time.

A lot of these conversations happen while puppies are asleep in our laps or while we’re sitting in a whelping box exhausted running on little sleep but still excited to talk about our dogs because we truly love what we do.

So when someone reaches out asking about:
price,
temperament,
health testing,
go-home dates,
parents,
photos,
videos,
availability,
our curriculum,
our program…

I genuinely sit there and thoughtfully type out responses because I care. I care about my dogs, I care about where they end up, and I care about helping people make the right decision even if it’s not with me.

And trust me, I fully understand asking questions before bringing home a puppy. You absolutely should. A puppy is a huge commitment emotionally, financially, and time wise.

But sometimes after spending an hour answering questions, sending videos, taking updated photos, explaining health testing, explaining how we raise our puppies, talking through personalities, and pouring emotional energy into the conversation…

it just ends with silence.

I don’t even think most people mean to be hurtful when they do it. Life gets busy. People get distracted. Plans change.

But on the breeder side, it can feel discouraging sometimes because these puppies are such a huge part of our hearts and our everyday lives. This isn’t just “inventory” to us. These are babies we’ve stayed awake with, worried over, celebrated milestones with, and poured ourselves into for weeks, months, and years through our programs.

And while we’re here, this is your reminder to please talk things over with your spouse, partner, or family before reaching out to breeders.

So many conversations end with:
“Let me talk to my husband”
“My husband isn’t ready.”
“We didn’t realize the investment.”
“We’re actually going on vacation.”
“The timing isn’t right.”

And those are all valid reasons! Truly.

But having those conversations beforehand helps save everyone a little emotional energy and time.

At the end of the day, breeders are people too. Most of us are just dog lovers with tired eyes, messy buns, laundry piles, and phones full of puppy photos trying our best to raise really good dogs and place them with families who will love them as much as we do.

So if you’ve ever reached out to a breeder and changed your mind, that’s okay. No hard feelings at all.

Just know a simple:
“Thank you so much for your time, but we decided to go another direction.”
means more than you probably realize.

I refuse to become the kind of breeder who loses her heart in the process.

I’ve seen it happen.

People start out loving the dogs… and somewhere along the way, the love the income more.

The spark fades.
The calling turns into convenience.
The dogs become numbers.
The litters become paychecks.

And I promised myself a long time ago
that would never be me.

I refuse to be the kind of breeder who looks at a heat cycle and sees dollar signs instead of responsibility.

Who treats dogs like inventory instead of souls.

I refuse to chase trends, colors, patterns, viral looks at the cost of health, temperament, and stability.

Because these are not accessories.
These are living, breathing little hearts who will grow into someone’s family member.

And I refuse to forget the families waiting on the other side of these puppies.
The kids who’ve prayed for a dog.

The mama who needs companionship.
The couple starting their little life together.

I will never be the breeder who takes the payment, hands over the puppy and emotionally clocks out.

To me, placing a puppy isn’t a sale
it’s an extension of my heart walking out the door.

I refuse to breed for attention.
For likes.
For clout.
For bragging rights.
For the approval of the internet.

I refuse to be the breeder who stops learning.
Who gets comfortable.
Who stops asking questions because “I’ve been doing this long enough.”

The moment I stop growing is the moment I stop deserving these dogs.

Instead, I choose to be the breeder who still feels everything.

Who still gets butterflies every time a mama goes into labor.

Who panics a little at every quiet puppy.
Who sets alarms through the night “just to check one more time.”

Who celebrates every tiny milestone like it’s the first time I’ve ever seen it.

I choose to be the breeder who prays over her dogs,
before breeding, during pregnancy, during whelping, and long after the puppies leave.

I choose to carry the emotional weight of every life I help bring into this world.
The hard decisions.
The sleepless nights.
The fear.
The joy.
The heartbreak.
All of it.

When a puppy is born here, they take a piece of me with them.
And that doesn’t fade after eight weeks…
not ever.

I choose to be the breeder who would rather have one exceptional litter
than ten rushed, careless, poorly planned ones.

Because at the end of the day, anyone can put two dogs together.
Anyone can post pictures.
Anyone can sell puppies.

But not everyone is willing to carry the emotional, physical, and moral weight that comes with truly ethical breeding.

Not everyone is willing to say “no” when money is on the table.
Not everyone is willing to do things the right way when no one is looking.
Not everyone is willing to put their heart on the line again and again and again.

But I am.

As long as I am doing this,
this is the standard I will hold myself to.
Whether it’s easy or not.
Whether people understand or not.
Whether anyone ever sees the behind-the-scenes or not.

Because these dogs deserve it.
The families deserve it.
And my heart… could never live with anything less. 🤍

This. 💯This.

This. 💯This.

The Day I Realized I Wasn’t “Just a Breeder.”

It didn’t happen on a big day.
Not on a go-home day when families cry happy tears.

Not during a perfect photoshoot where puppies behave like angels.
Not during a whelping where adrenaline and prayers are all that hold you together.

It happened on a random Tuesday.

I was on the floor in my black leggings, and a mama dog with her head on my leg, coffee barely warm, the dryer buzzing for the third time because I forgot to fold the last load… again.
Puppies were squeaking, someone had knocked over the water bowl, and my to-do list felt taller than me.

One little puppy crawled into my lap next to his mom and fell asleep, just breathing those tiny soft breaths that hit you right in the chest.

And it hit me, too
This is someone’s best friend.
Someone’s therapy dog.
Someone’s reason to smile again.
Someone’s healing.
Someone’s “home.”

And in that moment, I realized…
I wasn’t “just a breeder.”
I was the beginning of someone’s story.

I’m the first hands that touch them.
The first face they imprint on.
The first heartbeat they snuggle against.
The first place they learn that the world is safe and people are gentle.

But that wasn’t all.

I started thinking about everything I do without even thinking about it:

I’m a photographer, capturing every milestone their first bath, their first stack, the way their little eyes open like tiny miracles.

I’m a nurse, checking temperatures, giving meds, monitoring weights, checking stools.

I’m a midwife, whispering encouragement during whelping, catching tiny bodies in my hands, rubbing life into fur that’s barely dry.

I’m a nutritionist, counting ounces, adjusting food, making sure mama and babies get everything they need to thrive.

I’m a trainer, planting the first seeds of confidence, teaching them to trust, to explore, to problem-solve, to come when called.

I’m a therapist, both for puppies and people listening, reassuring, guiding families through questions and fears.

I’m a matchmaker, finding the right puppy for the right home not based on color or gender, but on soul, structure, temperament, and destiny.

I’m a home-maker, turning my house into a nursery, a playground, a classroom, a safe haven.

I’m a custodian, cleaning more in one day than some people do in a week.
(And still somehow the house looks lived-in because… it is.)

I’m a business owner, answering messages, juggling schedules, vetting families, printing contracts, ordering supplies, and trying to keep everything running smoothly.

I’m a prayer warrior, praying over every heartbeat, every birth, every home these puppies will touch long after they leave mine.

And finally,
I’m a mama to dogs I raise with all the love in my chest, knowing they’ll only be “mine” for a little while… but they’ll always be from me.

The truth is, breeding isn’t just a hobby.
It isn’t just a business.
It isn’t just “raising puppies.”

It’s everything.
It’s pieces of your heart scattered across the world in warm, furry bodies.
It’s waking up at 2am because someone squeaked funny.
It’s memorizing individual personalities.
It’s celebrating the shy puppy’s first brave moment.
It’s grieving the ones you lose, even if no one else knew their name.
It’s loving every single one like they’re staying forever.

It’s sacrifice.
It’s purpose.
It’s calling.
It’s holy work sometimes.

I’m not “just a breeder.”

I’m the beginning of a thousand love stories.
The keeper of bloodlines and blessings.
The raiser of hearts wrapped in fur.
The protector of purpose.
The hands that hold the first chapter of someone else’s happily-ever-after.

And if you’ve ever loved one of my puppies, if one has curled up beside you or healed something in you
then you already know…

I was never “just a breeder.”
I was always so much more.
