And now my horse lays down better than my dogs 🤷🏻‍♀️

One handed neck rein while carrying a flag, not too bad for 60 days with this nugget 💕

Bandit is highlighting the importance of teaching young horses not to panic when their feet get tangled up (or stuck). I went inside for a quick lunch break and came back to find him stuck in the fence. Most likely he rolled and got his hind feet stuck in the panels. He clearly didn’t panic, and he was very calm while I removed the panels and lifted his back legs out. 🙌🏼

Koda

Grade 12 yo dun gelding. Koda had a 30 day start and then was mostly used for trails. Hasn’t been ridden consistently in a while, but I rode him tonight and he knows the basics.

Koda would make a good using horse or trail horse. He can be buddy sour when ridden away from the barn solo on a trail ride, but does just fine in the arena by himself or with others.

This is NOT a beginners horse. Video available, located in Lampasas TX. Currently barefoot and 100% sound. No known injuries.

*Not my horse* just helping a friend find him a new zip code.

I think he forgot I was up there 😅

Two horses, two first times with a saddle, two completely different results.

The first horse has had minimal groundwork. He honestly doesn’t need it. He’s not spooky, he does what I ask, and he gives to pressure without coming undone.

The second horse has had weeks of groundwork. She’s very watchy and sometimes reactive but not always. She’s been laid down many times, she’s gotten soft to the halter, roped her feet, I’ve laid across her back, she’ll walk up to me on the fence, the list goes on.

Let’s normalize the fact that not every horse is easy, not every horse can be fixed with more groundwork. At some point you have to pull the trigger and move on to the next step. And sometimes it ain’t pretty 🤷🏻‍♀️
